Upcoming DC Animated Movies Include Two-Part DEATH OF SUPERMAN And SUICIDE SQUAD Titles

Following the premiere of Batman and Harley Quinn last night, Warner Bros. announced a new batch of DC animated movies which will take us right into 2019. These are going to be seriously epic, folks...

DC's animated movies continue going from strength to strength with Batman and Harley Quinn set to be released next month and Batman: Gotham by Gaslight on track for 2018. That title has been officially confirmed now as have a few more which are on the way. That's going to be followed in the spring of 2018 by Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay, Task Force X's first movie set in this animated universe.

The team did, of course, appear in 2014's Batman: Assault on Arkham but that was set in the same world as the Arkham video games. Given her popularity, expect Harley Quinn to play a key role here.

Perhaps most exciting, though, is the fact that late 2018 will see the release of Death of Superman. That's going to be part one, with part two, Reign of the Supermen, set for release in 2019. Apparently, this will be a more faithful take on the classic story than the one in 2007's Superman: Doomsday.

So, lots to look forward to then! Which of these movies are you guys most excited to check out?

Seeing the Death of Superman on film will be beautiful. After that film I hope Kingdom Come or Crisis on Infinite Earths will be next.

@BlackIceJoe - It's just a shame they already messed up with Death of Superman.

Why does DC hate Superman so much? Nobody has tried to kill someone so many times since Bill Murray tried to kill Bill Murray in that movie about Bill Murray being stuck in a time loop on Groundhog Day. I can't remember the name of the movie... It was a prequel to Ghostbusters, I think.

@Spock0Clock - So making a 2 parter of Superman somehow is DC hating him? The story was never about how shitty Supes is, the death itself is just a small thing compared to the whole story, funeral & reign of the supermen is where it gets interesting and guess what? That material has not been animated until now, not in a way that resembles the comics faithfully like DKR part I & II did. This is good, people will finally get to see the real and complete story.

Not another Batman film?!

sweet, wonder if they are going to split a condenced version the events of A World without Superman between the two films. Gotham by Gaslight will be great, and Suicide Squad should be good. Hope we get Superman Red Son soon.

Ohhhh yeah!!!!
No Batman bitchees!!!
Two Parter ALWAYS sound great!
Wish they did that for All Star Superman, cause TDKR was a BLAST!

Thank God they're doing something for Supes 90th anniversary! :D

What?! But they did it already! There's such a wealth of stories, GNs and projects that they could be doing and haven't done yet, do we really need to go back and re-do The Death of Superman, just to give it a more faithful adaptation? Sure we'll get to see the four Supermen instead of just Lex Luthor's evil clone, but, I mean... they kinda already did it?
It's not like Reign of the Supermen is a classic because it's good writing or anything. It was an event. A sales thing. Fun, yes, but it doesn't warrant the DTVs going over old ground, when they could be giving us something fresh.

@GwenLantern - They kind of did this in animated form, true, but they really messed up the story line.

Death of Superman again? That's disappointing. I'd rather see some other Superman story adapted than something they already did. Not excited about Suicide Squad either, especially if it features Harley Quinn. There's too much of that character these days and I'm so sick of her. WE DON'T NEED MORE HARLEY QUINN! This doesn't sound epic at all. The only one of these I'm at least a little bit interested in is Batman: Gotham By Gaslight.

I'd rather see The Long Halloween, Hush, Kingdom Come or Red Son adapted. Ed Brubaker's Catwoman would be great too, or maybe Selina's Big Score. Catwoman is a great character, but she is very underused these days. Also, Wonder Woman is pretty huge right now, why can't we get more of her?

Batman: Assault on Arkham was alot better than Suicide Squad, had they adapted that instead we would have got a fantastic movie.
I'm sure Ayer could have done that in Six weeks

Are you telling me that we're getting an animated movie not about Batman or his annoying son?

I was hoping they'd let Tim Burton direct an animated Version if his Superman Lives script. Or a Stop Motion Animated Batman 3 with Michael Keaton.
