TMNT 2: Stephen Amell On How The Origin Of His 'Casey Jones' Differs To The Classic Version
A lot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans thought Arrow actor Stephen Amell was a slightly odd choice to play the dishevelled, unhinged vigilante, but he does seem to be a fan of the character at least - even if there will be some significant changes to his origin in this movie!
There have been several versions of Casey Jones featured in the various TMNT comics, animated series and movies over the years; but he is generally depicted as an unstable (though heroic), slightly delusional down-and-out viginlate who dedicates al of his time and energy to cracking street thugs' skulls. Well, it sounds like that won't quite be the case with the take on the character Stephen Amell will be playing in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sequel. Here's what the Arrow star had to say to IGN when they quizzed him about it at SDCC over the weekend.
"It's certainly not your father's or your younger self's Casey Jones, but that's because we meet him at a very different time in his development. He is not the Casey Jones that a lot of comic fans have come to know and love. He is a guy with a job that lives in New York and loves hockey. When things go awry, [and] when he goes through the normal methods of what someone would do when they're [a] law-abiding citizen and he's met with laughter and scorn... he decides to take things into his own hands."
Sounds interesting anyway... but what do you guys make of those alterations? The sequel to last year's box office smash also stars Megan Fox, Will Arnett, Stephen Amell, Tyler Perry, and Laura Linney, and is currently shooting in New York. TMNT 2 (working title "Half-Shell") will be directed by David Green and produced by Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Andrew Form. The movie hits June 3rd, 2016.
