The Crow Caliber Luke Evans

Luke Evans (Fast & Furious 6, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug) spoke to Red Carpet News TV at the 2014 British Academy Film Awards and touched on the upcoming reboot of The Crow:

On the story and fan expectations.
We just want to be as authentic and loyal to the original comic and that means the story will be different. It will be different [from] what people are expecting. It's not about ripping off the Brandon Lee movie. That stands alone as a piece of brilliant cult film and a great performance. But we're going back to the book, the original book and that's exciting because we're bringing to the screen a lot of parts of the story that were never really told. It's our chance to do it differently, but as loyal and respectful of the original storyline as we possible can.

On putting on The Crow makeup and costume. Is he looking forward to donning the iconic look?
It will be interesting won't it? I don't know how it will feel. I have yet to think about that too much, I'm just prepping, it's all very physical at the moment.

Luke Evans Unafraid Of Any Superstitions Surrounding THE CROW

After a number of directors, writer and actors attached themselves and then dropped out, The Crow reboot looks set to begin filming at some point in 2014. Luke Evans will star as the titular protagonist. It's rumored that Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) and Kristen Stewart (On The Road) are also up for parts. Francisco Javier Gutiérrez (Tres días) will direct the feature for Relativity Media. That original comic book was first published in 1989 by Caliber Comics. James. O'Barr stated that he wrote the comic as a way of dealing with the death of his girlfriend at the hands of a drunk driver. O'Barr is aboard the project as a creative consultant.

There is a reason they had to make changes from the original comic the first time around. I have a feeling this movie is going to have issues with pacing and not do well at the box office.

I love The Crow i was worried at first when a reboot was announced but now i'm optimistic that the reboot might take off in a new direction and might do something that the audience has not seen before especially if the film will be based on the comic.

I like Luke Evans he's a very good actor just sometimes he sounds like Orlando Bloom.

Holy Shit. I was watching Desolation for the third time today and thought, damn, this guy could make a good BATMAN. Now I see he's the CROW- a franchise I've long written off.

I might actually pay attention to it now.

Luke Evans could have made a good Batman and he can make a great Hal Jordan yet...

@1to10

You blame everything on the MCU. That is sad that you are so insecure about another company that you lash out at their fans everytime someone says anything negative about any movie not associated with that company. You say you "troll" to defend DC's honor, but, what's your excuse this time? Considering it's a fact that Grif bashes movies from all studios, why are you bringing up Marvel AGAIN? You clearly have an agenda...

They should use another character or create a new one to become The Crow. Why does it have to be Eric Draven?

This is a supposed to be a reboot after all. Not a remake. I mean, no actor will ever top Brandon Lee's performance as Eric Draven.

I loved the crow when I was younger it will always be one of my all time favourites but the sequels and tv show were terrible so I hope they do a good job but not all movies should be remade or have sequels.

Looking forward to both the new RoboCop and The Crow, because, even though I love both originals, neither were great films.

@nibs I watched the movie again when I was older and I liked it more. I understood it better, you know, I picked up on a lot more things than when I was younger.

And when I'm having a difficult time in my life, I think to myself, "It can't rain all the time."

That's how much of an impact original movie had on me. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion though.

While I enjoy the original movie, he's right, it's a stand alone cult status film. It very poorly actually captures anything good from the gr. So if I get a movie that's loyal to my favorite story in any medium I'm happy.

if Luke is saying that the movie will be more in tandem with the original graphic novel, then we will finally get a true The Crow movie done right. I love the Brandon Lee version but the movie strayed a lot from the source material. it blows my mind how fans don't see this. especially on this site where everyone will pick apart Man of Steel or Iron Man 3 straying from the source material. hopefully we'll get a black T-Bird, a period piece that takes place in the 80's with 80s music to boot, Shelly is blonde or even Eric doesn't have a last name but just goes by Eric, skull cowboy. one of the things that bothered me the most was where the villains figured the bird to be a weakness and exploited it and Eric was weakened. I want in the new movie for Eric to be the incarnation of death. in the books he was unstoppable in his mission for vengeance. oh and we need ultra violence and poetry. the original movie didn't have any of those.

TruBeliever - 1/9/2014, 7:13 AM
Skull Cowboy was in the original film (but he was cut out/ the crow (bird) in the film took its place. The poetry was replaced with him playing the guitar. and the whole death of him and shelly was way off too. if they remake this it would be nice for it to be a period piece in the 80's and make Eric stark raving crazy, cause he was in the graphic novel.

The darkness, spawn and witchblade deserve more chance to be in the big screen.

LongJohnSilver and TruBeliever said it right. Seems MOST of you don't READ the articles... You just complain. This isn't really a reboot or remake! Its simply a film version of the actual novel, which the original film has LITTLE in common with! I bet most of you bitching haven't ever read the novel...! The book has a lot of great things in it that the film didn't use. THIS WILL BE A GOOD FILM. Hopefully we get good actors with more fleshed out villains then the book gave us though.
