Sounds Like Luke Evans Is Dropping Out Of THE CROW Reboot

While doing press for Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies, Luke Evans told Den Of Geek he probably wasn't going to do The Crow reboot as he has other projects set and ready to go. Come check it out.

Yesterday, it was announced that  Relativity Studios had hired Corin Hardy to direct their reboot of The Crow, which will be Hardy's  first live-action feature film. He replaces F. Javier Gutiérrez, who left the project to work on the next installment of The Ring.

It sounds like Relativity Studios will need a new leading man, based on a recent interview with Luke Evans ("Dracula Untold"). Den Of Geek asked Evans how The Crow was progessing and he replied:
"It’s not, no. No at the minute The Crow is not, not for me, I think it’s a little… I mean I’m sure it’s going to go ahead at some point, but I have other projects that are greenlit and ready to go and projects that I’m very interested in and you know, I can’t wait much longer! [laughs]"

Sounds to me like Evans is no longer attached. This will be a blow to James O'Barr, the creator of The Crow. He's be praising Luke Evans' acting ability and the way he looks in the iconic makeup for over a year.

Who would you like to see get the lead role?

Catch the explosive, action-packed hit that thrilled moviegoers and dazzled critics everywhere! Brandon Lee (RAPID FIRE) plays Eric Draven, a young rock guitarist who, along with his fiancee, is brutally killed by a ruthless gang of criminals. Exactly one year after his death, Eric returns -- watched over by a hypnotic crow -- to seek revenge, battling the evil crime lord and his band of urban thugs, who must answer for their crimes. Loaded with intense, nonstop action and a hot #1 hit soundtrack, THE CROW delivers exhilarating, fast-paced entertainment!

The Crow was directed by Alex Proyas. The screenplay was written by David J. Schow and John Shirley, based on a graphic novel created by James O'Barr. The cast included: Brandon Lee as Eric Draven/The Crow, Rochelle Davis as Sarah, Ernie Hudson as Sgt. Albrecht, Michael Wincott as Top Dollar, Bai Ling as Myca, Sofia Shinas as Shelly Webster, Anna Levine as Darla, David Patrick Kelly as T-Bird, Angel David as Skank, Laurence Mason as Tin-Tin, Michael Massee as Funboy, Tony Todd as Grange and Jon Polito as Gideon. The film was released on May 13, 1994, and generated $144 million at the worlwide box office, against a budget of $23 million.

I would like to see Tom Hiddleston in the film. I remember reading that Hiddleston put makeup on himself to try to get the part.

Let's just hope this news kills the reboot. We don't need it, nor want it.

The original Crow is where it's at !

Wow... well, they couldn't expect Luke Evans to wait around forever for the movie to move forward.

It's probably best they cancel the remake at this point. Hiring a retired music video director is a desperation move.

Relativity Studios should move on to another project.

How about they don't bother with The Crow reboot since The Crow is good anyway.

Evans was spot on casting and there must have been some issues for him and Gutierrez to both drop out. Just let this thing die already, with this no name director on board I'd say they'll be lucky to get Edward Furlong to sign back on.

I mean what's the point of this film?? The Crow has little or no name recognition amongst a younger audience today, people like us who revere the Brandon Lee version will just be embarrassed and shamed by this non R modern imagining which will be CGI'd into oblivion, just what are Relativity thinking is going to happen??

They'd make more tidying up original and releasing on Blu Ray with tonnes of extras or just a limited run in theatres for a 20th anniversary or something

"Signs and Portents' - The original film is an absolute classic. The sequels stank up the screen. Leave it in peace.
