Zack Snyder cast Kiersey Clemons in his version of Justice League for a scene which Joss Whedon ultimately left on the cutting room floor. We saw that in its entirety in the "Snyder Cut," as Barry Allen saved Iris West from a car crash before racing off into the distance.
The Flash only vaguely alluded to that and Clemons found herself starring in a version of the movie she'd never signed up for. Originally, the actress had been tapped to star in Rick Famuyiwa's take on the DC Comics superhero, only to be given what proved to be a thankless and forgettable role in this past summer's effort.
Doing the rounds to discuss her work in Apple TV+'s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Clemons reflected on her brief stint (which saw her deal with potentially being recast at one stage) in the DCEU.
"I feel like I am so happy that I can move on from it and not answer questions about it anymore," she told The Direct. "That was years of my life. And that season is over. You know what I mean? And I'm also part of another universe now. And I like it a lot over here."
Pushed on whether that means her time as Iris is over, Clemons added, "I don't make those decisions. I love being Iris West. I wish that I could have done more being Iris West. There's no part of me that does not appreciate that I got the honor of being cast as Iris, but now I'm May. And there are no superheroes. There's monsters now."
She clearly doesn't want to talk about it, but couldn't escape the subject once again coming up in a conversation with ClutchPoints.
"I think that regardless of the genre, if you like a script, it's gonna be so tempting," Clemons said of her possible future in the genre. "It would really have to be something that I just would regret if I didn't do on my deathbed, you know? I guess I did it. Regardless of the experience, there were actually great times."
"I think that there's a lot of superhero movies and I think I might be one of those people who's a little tapped out and would like to see something else."
It's not exactly surprising to hear this, and it doesn't appear as if Clemons has any interest in taking another crack at any sort of superhero movie role. It's a shame in many ways, but based on what she went through over a good half a decade or more with the DCEU, can you blame her?
