Marvel's Thor: The Dark World continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger. The film opens in a similar fashion as Thor (2011) with a voice-over from Odin (Anthony Hopkins) explaining the story of Bor, his father, who vanquished the Dark Elves led by Malekith (Christopher Eccleston), who sought to return the universe to its state before creation using a force called the Aether. The present day in London, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) goes to an abandoned factory where she is sucked into a vortex which leads her to the Aether, Malekith and his forces, awakened by the release of the Aether with a goal to plunge the universe back into darkness.
Malekith and his Dark Elves were not threatening enough, even Frigga (Rene Russo) was able to take on Malekith alone with ease and he wasn't a great threat to Thor (Chris Hemsworth) but was rather after the Aether then an individual. We see a start of a love triangle between Thor, Jane Foster and Sif (Jamie Alexander) due to the current events and threats from Malekith, it is left as a plot hole presumably for a third instalment.
It jumps straight into the plot; It is very enjoyable throughout the rest of the film giving you plenty of laughs and great action sequences. Loki (Tom Hiddleston) steals the show with many unexpected actions and Algrim/Kurse (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) is a real physical threat to Thor while Dr. Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgard) runs around Stonehenge naked.
Marvel's Thor: The Dark World gets a 9/10, the film gives you plenty of laughs and great action sequences with many twists and turns. You should stay to the end as the mid-credits scene teases Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and leaves you grasping for more, additionally we also get a post-credit scene similar to Iron Man 3 (2013).
