We still don't know a whole lot about Marvel Studios' plans for the Thunderbolts, but star David Harbour has now shared a very interesting update while chatting to ComicBook.com about his latest movie, Violent Night.
The Stranger Things star is set to reprise his Black Widow role as Red Guardian, and while he didn't go into specifics about his character, he did tease some kind of major development that sounds like it will have significant implications for the Marvel Cinematic Universe during Phase 5 and beyond.
Harbour said he has yet to read the script, but has been told the general plot of the film, and knows that it will feature a "bomb-drop."

What could Harbour be referring to here? Without some more details on the story, it's difficult to hazard a guess - but Black Panther: Wakanda Forever may have given us at least some idea of what to expect from the Thunderbolts.
In Ryan Coogler's sequel, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) makes a surprise appearance as the new CIA Director, and it's strongly implied that she intends to harness the power of Wakanda's Vibranium supplies for her own ends. This may add some weight to a recent rumor claiming that the Thunderbolts movie will focus on the team waging war on the Panther's home nation.
Alexei Shostakov will be joined by Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), John Walker/U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko). A formidable roster, for sure, but could they possibly hope to match up to the Black Panther and her Vibranium-kitted warriors? Maybe if they had a Red Hulk on their side...
Speaking of which, there is a rumored character description for Harrison Ford's take on Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross doing the rounds. We're not buying it, but see what you think.
Jake Schreier (Robot and Frank, Dave) is set to direct Thunderbolts, with Black Widow scribe Eric Pearson penning the script.
