Quality aside, MI4 and Dragon Tattoo WILL destroy this in the box office. That's two franchises with built-in fanbases far larger than TinTin's (in the states, at least).

I love the MI seires (except for MI2) but i am looking forward to Tintin more than MI4 due to the fact that i know it's not simply gonna be Tom Cruise running round everywhere doing impossible stunts whilst having a cheesy grin on his face.

I hear everything you all are saying but lets be REAL!

This movie will most likely do what all children's or animated movie do opening up along side a major blockbuster movie like MI4 and make a Killing. It may not make #1 but 2nd place is always very rewarding.

Its the same cycle over and over and over again.

Like it or not, THis movie will likely make a real killing and If I had to take a bet, it will make MORE MONEY than The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo Moive. I mean come GreendalehumanBeing.... At Christmas Time, i don't think people (at least in America) will be rushing in to see that creepy movie over TinTin.

The Kids have MAJOR influence.

@Nubax

Fair observation, but you also need to consider that this isn't a standard animated movie. It's a Zemeckis-style motion capture flick, and those have made less and less money over the past few years, culminating with the spectacular failure of Mars Needs Moms.

It'll also have other kiddie-fare to compete with, like Hugo Cabaret and the third Chipmunks movie (ugh).

And Dragon Tattoo is apparently going to have a SERIOUS Oscar campaign behind it, so I feel like it'll do better than you'd expect. Not to mention those books are HUGE in the US and now people can see a movie version of it without having to read subtitles (God forbid...)

It'd be cool if Tintin made a good chunk of change, but unfortunately I don't think it's in the cards.

(Grand)Fathers will force their kids to watch Tintin the same way they did with Smurfs.

I don't see the fascination with this tin-tin movie. I can't stand this type of animation.

@xsnakeplisskenx
whats your beef with rap music. Tin-tin is going to be boing, i'm getting that polar express vibe, i hated that movie.

This is big overseas... and if you haven't noticed the overseas market stops the domestic one in terms of $$. So, they (the producers, studio execs) don't give a steaming turd what we (domestic viewers) think as long as they can fleece the international movie goers.
