Updates on The Adventures Of Tintin: The Secret Of The Unicorn sequel have been few and far between since the film was released back in 2011. Steven Spielberg directed the first movie, which was also produced by Lord Of The Rings director, Peter Jackson. At the time, it was announced that Spielberg would direct the first film, and Jackson would handle the second film. With there being no news on the sequel in quite sometime, fans were starting to wonder if the movie would ever happen at all.

Spielberg has been busy promoting his latest film, Ready Player One where he was asked about the status of the Tintin sequel. “Peter Jackson has to do the second part. Normally, if all goes well, he will soon start working on the script,” he said via ComingSoon. “As it takes two years of animation work on the film, for you, I would not expect to see it for about three years. But Peter will stick to it. Tintin is not dead!”

Back in 2013 Spielberg said that the script for the sequel was finished, and was rumored to feature two of the classic Hergé Tintin books Prisoners of the Sun and The Seven Crystal Balls, but if Jackson needs to work on the script that could have changed. While Spielberg mentions that it would take three years to complete the film, there has been no mention of a production date.

You can catch Ready Player One when it hits theaters on March 29, 2018.

I enjoyed the first one. Although I do admit I knew very little of the character at the time, it was still a great adventurous film that reminded me of Indiana Jones.

Loved Tintin comics as a kid and I enjoyed the first one quite a bit, weird animation style and all. I'd like to see a second with Peter Jackson directing and I hope it comes through.

Good to hear, it was a very good movie, it gave Spielberg new tools to play with and have a free directing style that was exciting to see.
The film should have made a TON of money in France but Intouchables (remade in the US as The Upside) came out a week later and broke Tintin's legs as well as it broke records.

I hear that Peter Jackson wants to do The Seven Crystal Balls/Prisoners of the Sun for the second movie and Destination Moon/Explorers on the Moon for the third film.

Personally I would like to see him judt go straight for the Destination Moon, since we've already had a theatrical version of Prisoners of the Sun.
And I know there was a stop motion Crab With the Golden Claws movie, way back, and that Speilvberg's first TinTin film readapted that, but it was part of a trilogy and they never did do the next two parts, so he kind of had to readapt it. But there's really no pressing need to do a what would essentially be a TinTin remake when there are other stories to adapt that have never had any big screen attention.

Cool-assed stories like Destination Moon!

(Although having said that, there is a Destination Moon easter egg in the 2011 Secret of the Unicorn movie, so would it have to be a prequel..?)
