Hasbro President Brian Goldner was on hand at the UBS Best Of Americas 2012 Conference today to discuss plans for the upcoming fourth installment in the lucrative Transformers franchise. Well, lucrative that is from a box office standpoint, but there is one area that Transformers: Dark Of The Moon apparently disappointed in - toy sales. You see, because the third movie used basically the same cast of Autobots and Decepticons as the previous movie did, toy sales dropped. No new Transformers, no new Transformers toys for the kiddies. According to Goldner, for this reason "Transformers 4 will have a new cast of [robot] characters and it will be a story revolving around these new characters.". New characters created for the movie, or new characters from the current Transformers canon that we haven't seen yet? It's not clear, but I wouldn't bet against the former. Goldner doesn't mention Michael Bay, but he is still apparently set to helm the fourth installment.

So how does the prospect of no Optimus Prime or Bumblebee in the next movie sit with you guys? Personally, at this stage I couldn't care less if they replaced them all with Teletubbies.

We would all love to see the dinobots but with Bay as director it just won't be that good. The third film had a better story, but they are always gonna have the transformers play second fiddle to some lame human story. Shockwave was barely in the last one, i don't even know if he actually said anything audible.
Its all about money, they make a ton of it from the movies but won't spend a ton to have the true stars in the movie the entire time.

@Starscream Shia won't be in this. He's sworn off mainstream Hollywood and said he'll only star in indie flicks from now on.

This movie is just going to be more of what we got from the previous 3. Was really hoping they'd just reboot it. New characters or not.

Although I'd love to see the Dinobots.

Optimus will probably still be in the movie. Bumblebee is wherever Sam is. Iron Hide, Arcee and Jazz are dead. So Prime needs a new crew. Megatron will probably be in it.

1986 - Transformers: The Movie makes $5.8 million worldwide but fanboys thought this was brilliant!

2007 - Transformers makes $709 million worldwide but fanboys hated it and said a sequel will fail because apparently "no real fan will see it".

2009 - Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen makes $836 million worldwide and fanboys hate it so much they can't see a sequel ever succeeding without their approval since they are all boycotting the movies.

2011 - Transformers: Dark of the Moon makes $1,123 billion worldwide and fanboys say it should have failed because it had a smaller opening than the last film plus they boycotted it.

Just keep up the moaning, boycotting and wishing these flicks will fail etc. It all seems to be doing Michael Bay and Hasbro a world of good with increasing success with every film!

So Hasbro wants to bring in new character/ robots because they did not do well in toy sales? Why not make a great story and better QUALITY toys? If they did both I'm sure they will make more money from the movie and toys.

maybe just maybe this will be the birth of BEAST WARS!!! ...am i the only person who wanted a beast wars movie over transformers??....

beast wars would of been sick on the screen!!...maybe 1 day...but if dinopots are going to be in this transformers movie...then its bascially beast wars for/to me! haha

They should focus on Transformers that did not go to earth during that war and news has spread of Megatron's fall and shit hits the fan.

For whatever stupidity people complain about in these movies I had a blast seeing all of them. Though I do not agree with 4th movies it seems they're trying to start a new trilogy and separate it from the previous trilogy.

It'd be just like the original animated Transformers movie back in the 80s when Optimus, BumbleBee, and the majority of the rest died and a new Prime and autobots team had to be assembled to defeat Megatron and his leader.

1986 - Transformers: The Movie makes $5.8 million worldwide. The movie is held in high regard, in terms of its entertainment value and games and comics still reference it to this day. Stan Bush, the band who did some music for the movie, are hired in mid 2000's-2012 to do a remix of said music for a new, very successful, game (based on the 80's cartoons and movie) as well as the live action Transformers film. Actors from the original cartoons/movie are rehired to revise their respective parts in 2 games (based on the 80’s properties) and all 3 live action films. Toys based on the 80's cartoons/movies are created endlessly and frequently sell out. Comics are continuously being created based on G1.

2007 - Transformers makes $709 million worldwide but fanboys hated it and said a sequel will fail because apparently "no real fan will see it". Everyone hates Michael Bay. Human intelligence and standards are universally lowered, after watching the film. Critics hate the film. Toys based on the film fail. Game based on the film fails. Comics based on the film fail. 2011 - Transformers: Dark of the Moon makes $1,123 billion worldwide and fanboys say it should have failed because it was dumber than the last one. Toys fail. Game fails. Music fails. Critics hate it. Humans revert to Neanderthals. Battleship is made.

It's funny how they want to introduce new characters solely because the toy sales fluctuated. To Hasbro's standpoint, these movies are another big expensive toy commercials, just like in the 80's.

Do you know why the toys, games, etc failed? Because they insisted in milking every last dollar out of the consumer that they could. Most of the people watching the movies are people that grew up watching the cartoons and know the toys now will never be as good as we had back in the day. As for the characters, it never said the OLD cast was out.. either way, a Transformers movie without Optimus? Would they make a Ninja Turtles movie without Splinter? The reboot crap is WAY overdone. Reboot = ran out of ideas and starting over. They do NOT need to reboot it when there's SOOOO much new stuff they could touch on.

I didn't know y'all hated Dark of the Moon so much. I thought it was better than the first two. More drama than the first two(albeit as much drama as Bay knows how to do). I don't get the hate. I enjoyed it.

I'm not sure about Galvatron, though...I mean, Megatron has died twice in the franchise, and revived once in the second movie - the idea of reviving him AGAIN, I think may make audiences roll their eyes.

But, yeah; Rodimus, Ultra Magnus, Kup, Springer, and Arcee should make a great team in the movie, with Rodimus' connection with the late Prime being one of the plot elements...OK, I mean, I'll still be skeptical about this with Bay still attached to it, but if that happens, I'll try to give the movie a shot.

Who really gives a shit at this point? Michael Bay is the biggest hack in Hollywood, he's everything that's wrong with the film industry. Can't stand him or his "films".

Keep Optimus and Bumblebee, I could care less if everyone else is different. They already killed off a lot of the good ones. And when they make toys, actually put some effort into it this time. All of the Optimus figures that weren't Japanese exclusives were mediocre.
