I can just hear all
The Lord of the Rings nerds whining in Elvish about how most of that box office is generated by 3D ticket sales. And you know what? They'd have a very fair point, but at the end of the day, the movie generated more money than any other film ever, except for three and that is outstanding. Anyone who is claiming 3D is dead or dying is not looking at the numbers.
Although SONY's decision to not pay for 3D glasses when
The Amazing Spider-Man and
Men in Black 3 come out, will make for quite the litmus test. Will movie goers pay up for lofty tickets and glasses? Let me add if you're smart you'll go see a 3D movie and take the free 3D glasses home with you before SONY starts what is sure to be a trend.
