At the end of March, we learned that British actor Chance Perdomo, best known for his roles in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and The Boys spin-off Gen V, had died following a motorcycle accident.
Shortly after the actor's passing, the show's production team confirmed they had paused work on the series to figure out how to move forward without him.
As Andre Anderson, the actor played one of Gen V's lead characters, with the stage ultimately set for him to be a major player in the world of The Boys. Fans have wondered if the role might be recast, but The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke has now elaborated on how Andre will be written out of the spin-off series.
"First, it's just so unbelievably tragic, and my heart goes out to his family," Kripke tells TV Line. "We're not trying to replace him because we can’t. We're playing the character's death on the show. So it's very heavy and it’s really emotionally difficult for the cast. And we're just trying to honor Chance as best we can."
In a separate interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kripke added, "We weren't going to recast or replace the character. We didn’t feel good about that. That put us in a situation where we had to re-break and rewrite quite a lot. So, we shut down for five weeks."
Elsewhere in that first conversation, the producer shared his excitement for fans to see where Gen V goes next. "It's really intense. It's fun to sort of find your legs in the second season of a show and really start digging into the story and the characters," he teases.
Kripke also hyped up the introduction of Godolkin University's new Dean, Cipher (Hamish Linklater). "He’s really scary. I’ve wanted to work with [Hamish] forever. He was so unbelievable in [Midnight Mass]. He’s a very complicated, mysterious character. I’m excited for people to see him."
Set in the diabolical world of The Boys, Gen V expands the universe to Godolkin University, the prestigious superhero-only college where students train to be the next generation of heroes—preferably with lucrative endorsements. You know what happens when supes go bad, but not all superheroes start out corrupt.
Beyond the typical college chaos of finding oneself and partying, these kids are facing explosive situations...literally. As the students vie for popularity and good grades, it’s clear that the stakes are much higher when super powers are involved. When the group of young supes discover that something bigger and sinister is going on at school, they're put to the test: Will they be the heroes or the villains of their stories?
Gen V season 2 doesn't currently have a confirmed premiere date.
