Every actor who signs on to play The Doctor in the long-running BBC series knows that their time in the TARDIS is limited, and after three seasons and several specials, Jodie Whittaker will soon bid farewell to the iconic Time Lord in the upcoming Doctor Who: The Power of The Doctor.

The 90-minute episode will see the first female incarnation of the legendary sci-fi character "regenerate" into the fourteenth iteration of The Doctor, who will be played by Sex Education actor Ncuti Gatwa.

While chatting to Empire, Whittaker discussed her final adventure and what sounds like an emotional send-off.

“It’s one for the Whovians. It’s a huge treat if you’re a proper fan. It’s got all the iconic things that you associate with Doctor Who. It’s massive. I love the dialogue Chris wrote for my regeneration,” she adds. “It captures my Doctor beautifully. It’s simple, epic and beautiful.”

It's never easy for fans to say goodbye to a beloved take on The Doctor, and Whittaker clearly felt the weight of the moment. “When I could see the crew was happy with that last shot, that’s when my bottom lip started going,” she recalls. “I was like, ‘Well, they can’t say they need another take now because I’ve f*cking lost it!’”

I was a long running fan until Capaldis time as the Doctor, I tried to give Whittaker a shot but found her incredibly cringey at times (that's saying something for DW) looking forward to seeing Tennant's return no matter how brief.

@TheDpool - Same. The show isn't what it used to be...and not in a good way.

Haven’t watched a single episode with her in, aside from the regeneration from Peter Capaldi.

I suppose I’ll watch the last five minutes of this one to see her turning into David

@HagridsHole1 - "How do you guys feel about Whittaker exiting the role and Gatwa taking over? "

My reaction watching the regeneration scene in a few weeks : "Here comes regeneration time ! NCUTI GAT... What ? ... What ? ... WHAT ?"

I find it odd with the new diversity race swapping trend why it's only white women and black people getting roles. Why don't we ever see white people gender and race swapped out for an Asian actor, or a Native American actor, or a Pakistani actor, or any other demographic that isn't white women and black men? It's almost like it's not really about the diversity... but ticking current popularity trend boxes.

Can't wait for the next Asian but Identifying as a Lizard, Transgender-non binary, exclusive pronouns are zey/zem is cast as the next Doctor.

@Twiz1331 - 100% correct but that won't stop the usual whining from some parts.

Never thought I’d see the day I’m excited for an era of Doctor Who to be over. Kind of wish Jodie was staying a bit longer to see see what she’d do under a competent show runner who doesn’t clearly hate the show

Not sad to see her go, its kind of a shame that she got saddle with the Chibnall era but then she never really rose to had the gravitas to play the role.

Shocking how badly this show has fallen - RTD has a mountain to climb and I think it's likely impossible

I think this show making a triumphant return is well beyond what RTD can even accomplish.

@TheFinestSmack - the franchise came back from a terrible 6th and 7th doctor run. It can do it again.

Mostly I’m excited to put this era behind us. I feel sorry for Jodi Whittaker for being stuck with such a dud of a run and not having a better written character or arcs.

Hopefully with RTD back in the drivers seat this franchise can return to the good ol’ days.

"How do you guys feel about Whittaker exiting the role and Gatwa taking over? " not going to lie I am skeptical. I worry the 14th doctor will be saddled with the same lazy writing that plagued the 13th

I found her run to be kinda boring, as I never looked forward to the next episode. Peter was my favorite overall as his character had Claire whom I thought made the show and the Doctor better than any other companion in the modern era. I think Jodie DW was dumbed down and had to many companions.
