With Supergirl returning in just over a month, The CW has released an action-packed new trailer that features tons of never-before-seen new footage from the first quarter of the season.

In addition to a much better showcase of Kara's new super suit, we catch first looks at two of this season's villains, Agent Liberty (Sam Witwer) and Mercy Graves (Rhona Mitra). We also get a quick glimpse at Kara's new ally, Nia Nal (Nicole Maines), who is the network's first transgender superhero.

Season three saw Supergirl stop Reign and the other Worldkillers’ threat to humanity and our planet, and in the process, Kara was shocked to find her mother Alura alive and living in a salvaged Argo City that survived the destruction of Krypton. Reconnecting with her past caused Kara to realize that her true home is now here on Earth, where big changes are taking place for her and all of her friends in National City – and also, it appears, for a doppelganger in Russia! Season four promises to be full of surprises, action, adventure and lots of big revelations for Supergirl, Alex, James, J’onn, Lena and Brainy.

Supergirl features:
Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl
Mehcad Brooks as James 'Jimmy' Olsen/Guardian
Chyler Leigh as Alexandra 'Alex' Danvers
Jeremy Jordan as Winslow 'Winn' Schott
David Harewood as J'onn J'onzz/Martian Manhunter
Katie McGrath as Lena Luthor
Jesse Rath as Querl Dox/Brainiac 5
Sam Witwer as Agent Liberty
Nicole Maines as Nia Nal/Dreamer
April Parker Jones as Colonel Haley
David Ajala as Manchester Black
Rhona Mitra as Mercy Graves
Robert Baker as Otis Graves
Erica Durance as Alura Zor-El

Supergirl returns with a brand new episode on October 14

And once again, the most interesting character(s) in this trailer aren't Kara...

I am curious about Nia's powers, how they work (she is called Dreamer so it could work on a subconscious level and there've been theories that she might be an ancestor of a future Legionnaire of the same name) and her origins. Logic in the show for super powers would point to her being an alien.

Sam Witwer looked badass in that shot. I hope they use him well like Smallville did.

Wished there was something for Brainiac-5 but I am curious how he'll become another little (?) brother for Alex. Let's hope that if he ends up leaving later to his home she does not sheds as much tears as she did for Winn.

I'm pretty sure the armored Supergirl is the Red Daughter. Not seeing right now a reason why Kara would need a suit, plus it'd be interestinf if this "Supergirl" and Kara team up only to later reveal it is her other half that was split from the Harun-El as they promised that it'll be a slow mystery at first.

Sundays...gotta mark that day.

No matter how goofy or camp the Arrowverse is, I just love the fact that they have a self awareness about what they do and still tell reasonably entertaining, cool comic book stories on TV. Heroes in suits, characters crossing over, big battles and above average talent involved.

It may not have Netflix darkness or budget, but they have the balls to put their heroes in suits and masks and produce more than double the episodes worth of content a year on probably half the budget.

So many actors from Smallville keep appearing in this show. When the hell are Tom Welling and Michael Rosembaum showing up?

@Himura - Probably right after Allison Mack

Last season was pretty bad, but Benoist has gotten better as an actor each season. It's getting close to the point where she's too good to be on this show anymore.
