SUPERGIRL is an action-adventure drama based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), Superman’s (Kal-El) cousin who, after 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be. Twelve-year-old Kara escaped the doomed planet Krypton with her parents’ help at the same time as the infant Kal-El. Protected and raised on Earth by her foster family, the Danvers, Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh), and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin in order to keep her identity a secret.

Years later at 24, Kara lives in National City assisting media mogul and fierce taskmaster Cat Grant (Golden Globe Award winner Calista Flockhart), who just hired the Daily Planet’s former photographer, James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), as her new art director. However, Kara’s days of keeping her talents a secret are over when Hank Henshaw (David Harewood), head of a super-secret agency where her sister also works, enlists her to help them protect the citizens of National City from sinister threats. Though Kara will need to find a way to manage her newfound empowerment with her very human relationships, her heart soars as she takes to the skies as Supergirl to fight crime.

Anyone else think her fist looks really weird, but can't explain why?

I really hope overtime they develop her into the tough Suergirl from DC 52 comics. This girl is really unsure about herself & sorta naiive, but hey.. it's only been her 1st outing as Supergirl

@neonzodiac I think it's because that weird glove part of the costume is making it look off

The trailer made this show look like trash, they are going to force so much cop detective work in here like they do all their shows on CBS.

This show looks really bad.... Just leave DC to the CW in my opinion.

One is not a hater because one does not want to watch this show. Maybe there are some of us that don't like Supergirl. I'm one of those. I know nothing about Supergirl and have no desire to learn. I'll only watch it if it happens to cross over with Flash. I don't blindly watch all comic book shows, else I'd have no time for, you know, a real life. I watch SHIELD, Flash and Arrow. I'll watch Legends of Tomorrow when it premiers. But that's it. I didn't watch one episode of Constantine. I won't watch Lucifer. I'll watch Titans, if it comes to fruition.

Skirt's a bit long but the show looks fun. I like "The Flash", but I don't like "Arrow".

Not once have I looked at any of her photos and felt that she is Supergirl. She just doesn't do it for me. I'm all for a good Supergirl show with the right cast and approach, but so far to date what I have seen leaves me bordering close to disinterest.

It has potential, but so much CW-style bullshit. Is there some law of shitty superhero TV that you have to surround your hero with at least 3 supporting archetypes?

1) Overbearing employer.
2) Unattainable attractive love interest.
3) Quirky opposite-gendered possible love interest.
4) Well-meaning older relative.
5) Hard-nosed military or law enforcement official.

Let's do Arrow season 1: Laurel (2), Felicity (3), and Detective Lance (5).
Smallville: Lana (2), Chloe (3), the Kents (4).
Flash: Wells (1), Iris (2), Detective West (alternates between 4 and 5).

I'm sure there are more I'm missing, but Supergirl already has all 5 of these very bland stock characters. Contrast that with a show like Daredevil where fully half of the cast doesn't even have much to do with Matt, being more in the orbit of Kingpin's story. Or, removing it from the genre, imagine a series with the narrative daring of a show like the Wire or Breaking Bad, where characters often defy any sort of category you put them in (McNulty, barely even appears in season 4, even as he's probably the closest thing we ever get to a traditional main character).

Supergirl's biggest problem is how absolutely devoid of innovation it is, leaning on the same tired primetime teen soap opera formula that has plagued scripted television for at least 10 years. Everybody doing CBTV is suffering, but Supergirl looks like it's going to be the biggest offender on the air right now.

For the record, everything I just said isn't necessarily all bad. Some characters could thrive in a show that relied on exactly that structure. Spider-Man is made for primetime teen soap drama. If they could ever get the budget for occasional high-flying feats of daring do, he would be perfect for this sort of show. It largely works for the Flash, because he's playing more or less a straight superhero. And it could be fine for Supergirl.

But, it's just that we've seen it all so much so recently, and so poorly matched to the lead character. When television has proven that shows don't need to rely on an episodic status quo or a large cast of regulars to fill time on the paper thin plots. Where procedurals aren't the be-all-end-all of putting asses in seats.

I saw the pilot and it was mediocre. It wasn't as bad as the trailers but it still wasn't good. I didn't mind the Supergirl part of the show so much but the human part of the show is just bad.

The human part of the show is just a really cliched chick flick. Jimmy Olsen is the "hot boyfriend" who has abs. Toyman is the next door neighbor that has a crush on Kara. Cat Grant is the "mean boss". It's just awful....
