THE SANDMAN Character Posters Spotlight Despair, Rose Walker, Matthew, And Lucienne

We're now just three days away from the premiere of The Sandman, and Netflix has shared another batch of character banners spotlighting Despair, Rose Walker, Matthew the raven, and Lucienne...

The Sandman arrives on Netflix on August 5, and the streamer is continuing its countdown by debuting another series of character posters.

This time we have new looks at Dream's trusted librarian Lucienne (Vivienne Acheampong), Desire's twin sister Despair (Donna Preston), Matthew the raven (who will be voiced by Patton Oswalt), and Rose Walker (Kyo Ra) who plays a key role in "The Doll's House" arc.

In related news, The Sandman EP David S. Goyer has revealed that season 2 scripts are already being worked on, which obviously bodes well for the show being renewed.

"In some ways, it's easier [writing Season 2 scripts] because we've educated the audience to the basic ideas," Goyer tells Den of Geek. "We've shown how the dreaming life can affect the waking world. With that groundwork done, the show can now build on those themes. They're more like jazz, where you get to plan variations, and we get to stretch our wings a bit more."

Check out the new banners below, and be sure to drop back Friday for our review (I was allowed to share a vague Twitter reaction).

"There is another world that waits for all of us when we close our eyes and sleep — a place called the Dreaming, where The Sandman, Master of Dreams (Tom Sturridge), gives shape to all of our deepest fears and fantasies. But when Dream is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for a century, his absence sets off a series of events that will change both the dreaming and waking worlds forever. To restore order, Dream must journey across different worlds and timelines to mend the mistakes he’s made during his vast existence, revisiting old friends and foes, and meeting new entities — both cosmic and human — along the way."

The Sandman also stars Tom Sturridge as Dream, Mason Alexander Park as Desire, Charles Dance as black magician Roderick Burgess, and Sanjeeve Bhaskar as Cain. Joely Richardson will play Ethel Cripps, while David Thewlis will take on the role of her son John Dee, aka the deranged Dr. Destiny.

The 10-episode first season of The Sandman will adapt the first two arcs of the Vertigo comics series, "Preludes and Nocturnes" and "The Doll's House."

They put less effort on Despair than they did Dr Destiny, it's nothing short of incredible how shit she looks compared to how far they went for bit characters like Mazikeen being perfectly comic book accurate.
