AGATHA Star Kathryn Hahn Says "People Are Going To Be Surprised" By WANDAVISION Spin-Off

Agatha: Darkhold Diaries (if that is its real name) star Kathryn Hahn spoke about the Disney+ series at the SAG Awards, revealing that fans are "going to be surprised" by the WandaVision spin-off.

Though some details have leaked over the past few months, Marvel Studios' upcoming WandaVision spin-off, Agatha: TBC, is still mostly shrouded in mystery, and star Kathryn Hahn suggested that viewers will not be expecting some of the show's twists and turns during a recent interview.

Hahn was asked if she could share any updates on the series on the red carped of Saturday's SAG Awards.

"I wish I could tell you anything. I can tell you that it's pretty fan-- fabulous, I'm going to say that," Hahn said. "I was going to say fantastic, but then I decided to go with fabulous."

"It's an amazing cast. I’m in awe of everyone’s work in this show and I think people are going to be surprised," she added. "I don't -- I think they're gonna think it's one way and, of course, it's gonna go a million different avenues kinda like WandaVision."

It's fitting that a series with so many secrets still doesn't have an official title. When it was first announced, the project was known as Agatha: House of Harkness. This was later changed to Agatha: Coven of Chaos, and more recently, Agatha: Darkhold Diaries.

Last we heard, it was actually going to be titled Agatha All Along, though this still hasn't been made official.

Marvel recently debuted the first footage from the show via a behind-the-scenes featurette, but we may see a full teaser trailer if and when this final title is announced.

The video spotlighted Hahn as the returning sorceress, who was sporting some new duds which look like they might be inspired by her later comic book appearances. We also saw supporting cast members Ali Ahn, Patti LuPone, Sasheer Zamata, Aubrey Plaza, and Joe Locke, who is believed to be playing Wiccan.

The footage appeared to confirm a previously leaked plot detail that Agatha and her allies will embark on a journey down the Witches Road, which is a mystical plane of existence that only sorcerers are able to tread.

Darkhold Diaries Agatha All Long will focus on powerful witch Agatha Harkness, who almost managed to defeat the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) in the season finale of WandaVision before being bested and trapped in Westview in her "nosy neighbour Agnes" persona. Though Olsen is not expected to appear, there's speculation that Wanda might have something to do with Harkness' release and/or reformation following the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Jac Schaeffer, who is under a joint overall deal with Marvel and 20th Television, will serve as writer and executive producer and will also helm multiple episodes along with Gandja Monteiro (Wednesday; The Chi) and Rachel Goldberg (Cloak & Dagger; Mayans M.C.)

"In the first episode, we see Agatha finally break out of a spell she has been trapped in," reads a recently released synopsis. "She can’t wait to go back to her old murderous ways only to find that she is powerless. The only way forward for her is to embark on a perilous quest to get her powers back with the help of an unlikely friend or two."

The show was originally supposed to premiere last year, but was pushed to October 2024 due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.

@RitoRevolto - Or they will complain complain complain and still watch it. Some of them seemed to have watched the Marvel's the first weekend.

It's so much easier to just not watch something if you don't have an interest, but how can you be really angry about it if you haven't.

Surprised Disney spent any money on this at all

Surprised they spent money on Echo

Surprised this won’t have any implications on the wider MCU

No, I don’t think I will

This show is unnecessary, and a perfect example of squandering resources that could have been used for something of value.

Why do fans have to wait years and years for some properties to be developed, when they can push out mediocre CW content way faster?

How long have we been waiting for Blade? Lmao

Agatha is a joke, but the bigger joke is that Disney spent money and resources on this show when they could have made something ppl actually wanted to see

@MuadDib - "This show is unnecessary"

Every show is unnecessary.

"a perfect example of squandering resources that could have been used for something of value. . . How long have we been waiting for Blade?"

This isn't how it works. Disney didn't take Blade's budget and spend it on Agatha. That movie hasn't started shooting yet because they can't nail the script, they can't keep a director attached, and they haven't been able to schedule anything because of last year's strikes.

"something ppl actually wanted to see"

People want to see this. She was a breakout character on a breakout show, and fans of that show are excited about this one. Not everything is made specifically for you.

@ClintThaHamster - to your very point I have a friend that is very much looking forward to this show. She was a fan of WandaVision, and is a big fan of the MCU. She loves the cast, witches, and Agatha. Seems like a show that's perfectly suited for someone like her.

She was absolutely fantastic in WandaVision, which is probably still the best MCU Disney Plus show to date. That said, I hope I am surprised... Because at this point she seems to work better as a supporting character, but we will see
RolandD
RolandD - 2/26/2024, 2:55 PM
@Izaizaiza - Exactly the way that I see Frank Castle.. The series was okay but he was at his best as a counter weight to Matt with their vastly different views on justice, even if Matt was tempted at times to kill. Some characters are just better in a supporting role.
