News has broke announcing the departure of Jim Chory, co-head of Marvel Television, from the prolific production studio. Having been instrumental during Marvel Television’s more recent rise to success within the past half-decade, this comes as a great surprise to many.
The television head, who took on mostly production duties while Jeph Loeb handled the creative decisions, has found great success in building up all of the corners of Marvel's television slate. Since Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in 2013, Marvel has noticably escalated the amount of television programs they have put onto the screen, with ten currently on air. Due to partnerships with Netflix, Hulu, and ABC, the company has managed to transcend past the MCU by establishing a working relationship with 20th Century Fox in regards to mutant-related content.
In an odd sense, the pivotal Marvel executive's departure was met to little to no fanfare, as Chory left the company quietly a few weeks ago. Due to no new series in pre-production, the high-ranking producer found this to be a reasonable time to exit his post, though it is still unusual of Marvel to not publicly thank the head for his years of service to the company.
Having had a successful superhero run before Marvel with the cult television series Heroes, Jim Chory seemed to be a no-brainer when he was first recruited by the studio. Going forward, it seems that Marvel will be looking for new blood.
