UPDATE: We've heard from sources in Disney who have confirmed Sneider's claims about the series are, in fact, false. Echo hasn't undergone reshoots and the show will be released as intended this November.
We'll continue bringing you all the latest updates on the Hawkeye spin-off as we have them!
Several months ago, we started hearing that Hawkeye spin-off Echo might be in trouble. It sounded a lot like there were creative issues with the Disney+ series, a bad sign when many fans have already questioned why the character needs her own TV show.
Recently, Marvel Studios confirmed that all episodes (we still don't know how many there will be) of Echo will drop on November 29. That's led to more speculation about the possibility of the series not being very good, as a release like this obviously means it's over and done with in a few days, rather than weeks of possible bad reviews!
We'll soon find out, but a new claim from insider Jeff Sneider on John Rocha's podcast suggests there has indeed been problems with Echo. Thankfully, they might have been fixed in recent months.
"I heard the show was kind of plagued by issues throughout production," he started. "I heard that it was a mess, and that the show came in so bad that they basically had to reshoot the entire thing. I’m told that they originally shot 8 episodes, and [Kevin Feige] thought it was unreleasable, so they talked about cutting it down to 4 episodes, or 6 in post."
"But then they ended up reshooting it, so my source did not actually know how many episodes they wound up with," Sneider adds. "But yeah, apparently it needed a top-down rejiggering, and that Kevin was not happy with it."
Given how many times Echo has been delayed, this adds up, and it wouldn't be the first time Marvel Studios has saved a project with reshoots. With that in mind, we're not too concerned, and there is quite a lot of excitement among fans to see how it leads into Daredevil: Born Again.
The origin story of Echo revisits Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox), whose ruthless behaviour in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.
As noted, all episodes of Echo will premiere on Disney+ on November 29.
