ECHO's Post-Credits Scene Lays The Groundwork For Another Upcoming Disney+ Series - SPOILERS

All five episodes of Echo are now streaming on Disney+, and the fifth and final chapter does include a brief-post credits scene which (presumably) lays the groundwork for Daredevil: Born Again.

In the season finale of Hawkeye, Maya Lopez put a bullet in Wilson Fisk's face. Believing her "Uncle" dead, the former mercenary waged war against the Kingpin's criminal operations, eventually forcing her to return to her hometown in an attempt to call in some favors and cripple his local businesses.

This ultimately leads to a confrontation between Maya and Fisk, who offers his former protégé a chance to return to New York and stand by his side once again. Lopez declines, which, as you might imagine, does not sit well with the volatile villain.

In the final episode, Kingpin captures his niece's family members, but before he can ruthlessly murder them, Maya is able to channel her ancestors' mysterious abilities (more on this later) to help them escape. She then grabs Fisk's head and seemingly manages to free him of the fear and hatred he has carried around for most of his life, which was manifested after he killed his abusive father in the Netflix Daredevil series.

The disorientated Kingpin leaves the scene, and in the post-credits sequence, we see him watching a news report about the NYC mayoral candidates in an upcoming election. As the reporter speaks, Fisk's face tells us everything we need to know: the Kingpin of Crime intends to run for mayor.

This was all-but confirmed by some Born Again set photos last year, but we didn't realize at the time that Fisk might actually have turned over a new leaf, and may genuinely be looking to make amends. We're sure there's still at least some of the old Kingpin in there, but the events of Echo certainly seemed to suggest that Maya successfully vanquished a few of her uncle's demons.

Echo will be the first project under a new banner known as Marvel Spotlight, which takes its name from an anthology comic book series that debuted back in 1971 and was the origin of beloved Marvel characters like Ghost Rider and Spider-Woman.

“Marvel Spotlight gives us a platform to bring more grounded, character-driven stories to the screen, and in the case of Echo, focusing on street-level stakes over larger MCU continuity," said Head of Streaming Brad Winderbaum. "Just like comics fans didn’t need to read Avengers or Fantastic Four to enjoy a Ghost Rider Spotlight comic, our audience doesn’t need to have seen other Marvel series to understand what’s happening in Maya’s story.”

"Marvel Studios presents Echo in which Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) struggles to reconnect with her Native American roots while balancing aspirations tied to a life of crime as successor to the brutal legacy of Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) aka Kingpin," reads the most recent synopsis. "In the first episode, we are introduced to Maya Lopez and her struggles."

In addition to Cox, D'Onofrio and Cox (Charlie), the show will also star Chaske Spencer as Henry, Tantoo Cardinal as Chula, Graham Greene as Skully, Cody Lightning as Cousin Biscuits, Devery Jacobs as Bonnie, and Zahn McClarnon as William Lopez.

The origin story of Echo revisits Maya Lopez (Cox), whose ruthless behaviour in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.

Daredevil Born Again should lead directly into Spider-Man 4. The plot of Wilson Fisk wanting to outlaw vigilantes in New York would make for an excellent plot. Especially if his primary targets are Maya Lopez, Daredevil, Spider-Man, Clint Barton, and so on. And if Fisk hires Scorpion and Shocker to hunt down Spider-Man and Daredevil, it would make for a great tag team movie.

@SonOfAGif - Is there a convincing way of explaining how Kingpin was defeated in S3 and how he is out of prison and influencing NY publicly?
This feels like Rise of Skywalker all over again. Making things up as they go with no regard for continuity.

@EnergyVamp - i mean the blip happened. I’m sure a lot of convicts escaped. The issue is him being able to run for Mayor.

@EnergyVamp - No. They don't explain any of that. And we are supposed to believe the events of Daredevil season 1 happened while Maya was hidden and kept secret.

@SonOfAGif - MCU is so sloppy now. It was so tight with continuity and storytelling and its like Kevin Feige just let someone else take over.

@Taonrey - I might be able to accept some storyline where Kingpin rebuilt his reputation as a man of the people during the blip. But the Hawkeye Kingpin we got is not the same. I'm rewatching Daredevil S1 and Kingpin is a chess master, not a fodder character like in Hawkeye...poor execution by Feige.

@EnergyVamp - that's what happens when you do a bunch of TV shows without a plan. Disney+ has been half assed in general

Echo was ok. I didn't hate it. All the defenders shows getting added to the MCU timeline order section on Disney plus is very interesting

@Invincible91 - Iron Fist included? That would be a waste!

This was the worst finale yet. Overall it was alright, but it that was Marvel aims for now? Mid grade content? This doesn't have any water cooler talk like an hbo show usually has, oh well
EnergyVamp
EnergyVamp - 1/10/2024, 1:56 AM
@bobevanz - Every single show has been piss poor execution except Loki which was more hit than miss.

@EnergyVamp - I would argue that Hawkeye is also decent but the only series I’ve loved is Loki. Everything else has ranged from super meh to super bad lol

@bobevanz - when the grandma’s fists light up, I started laughing out loud. Marvel needs to pull the plug on making shit for Disney+ and just focus on putting out good films or else they’re going to damage their brand permanently.

@bobevanz - does she seriously cure him of being evil with native American powers? In what's supposed to be a grounded series?

Enjoyed the show. Finally was a bit anticlimactic and didn't feel her character needed an costume. Good performances by the cast and nice to see Native Americans get some love

This show is awful. I fast forwarded to kingpin scenes and even they weren't special. Hopefully Daredevil is better than this but with the reshoots I'm concerned about that show as well.
EnergyVamp
EnergyVamp - 1/10/2024, 1:55 AM
@McMurdo - No Chance, it will suck or be mediocre. MCU decided to make Netflix shows canon but this Kingpin is not canon to season 3 ending and they didnt bother to hire back the old Daredevil showrunners now that Netflix is canon.
TheLobster
TheLobster - 1/10/2024, 3:08 AM
@McMurdo - even Kingpin sucked half of the time. His whole performance in the finale was [frick]ing awful. Marvel should have let Netflix continue on with their shows. No doubt season 4 of Netflix’s DD would have been better than whatever shit Marvel is cooking for their series.

@EnergyVamp - I’m on episode 4 and so far? Nope lol

It’s like they’re taking parts of the Netflix series and ignoring other parts which is.. lazy lol
Kurban
Kurban - 1/10/2024, 3:38 AM
@EnergyVamp - Honestly this, combined with the fact that apparently Matt, Foggy and Karen aren’t together (and Jon Bernthal Punisher) says to me it feels like they’re just taking seasons 1 and 2 as canon and the only element from season 3 is Fisk gets out of prison.
TheLobster
TheLobster - 1/10/2024, 2:59 AM
JFC that finale made me laugh at the writing and cringe at the acting.

I gotta hand it to the editors at Marvel - they fooled me into thinking this could be a good series but nope. It’s mid like almost everything else on Disney+

I’m even more concerned for Daredevil now..

@TheLobster - it sucks to be a completeist, i will now force myself to watch it

@TheLobster - yea the only thing giving me
Hope for DD is them allowing a marvel Netflix writer to be an actual showrunner but even then, will they find a way to screw that up…

Are WandaVision and Loki the only projects allowed to actually be good?
