IRONHEART: The Confusion Surrounding Alden Ehrenreich's Role May Have Been Cleared Up - SPOILERS

Solo: A Star Wars Story's Alden Ehrenreich is set for a key supporting role in Ironheart, and the recent confusion surrounding his character may now have been cleared up....

Prior to production commencing on the Disney+ Ironheart series, character breakdowns did the rounds online, and one description sounded a lot like the son of the late Iron Man villain Obadiah Stane, the equally megalomaniacal Ezekiel Stane.

When the news broke that Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story) had joined the cast of the Marvel Studios show, it was generally assumed that he'd be playing "Zeke," but a recent Marvel U.S. Copyright listing named his character as "Joe McGillicuddy."

So, which character is Ehrenreich playing? If a new report from CWGST proves accurate, it's both.

Just in case this is supposed to be a big plot twist, potential spoilers follow.

According to the scooper, The Solo star is indeed playing Stane, but will be introduced under the alias of Joe McGillicuddy. Zeke is described as a "tech ethicist," who Riri Williams seeks out to get her hands on some black market tech to upgrade her armor.

Zeke is a pretty ruthless villain in the comics, so we assume any alliance or cooperation between the two will be short-lived.

Star Dominique Thorne recently confirmed that shooting has officially wrapped.

Producer Nate Moore said that he viewed the Ironheart series as a direct sequel to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever during an interview last year.

"That show is an outgrowth of how much we liked her in this movie and even on the page. So, when we talked with [Dominique Throne] initially, obviously the character had been written to the script and she was the one and only person we talked about for the role. When she said yes and we were down the road with the script, we also started talking with [Ryan Coogler] about what the show could be."

"So, the show is a direct sequel to the movie," he continued. "And [Riri Williams] is carrying the experiences she had in this movie back home to MIT. And there are some interesting repercussions to her adventures that will set her on a fun course."

In the comics, Riri is encouraged to suit-up and fight crime by Tony Stark, who becomes a mentor of sorts to the young hero. Stark's death in Avengers: Endgame would obviously make that particular dynamic very difficult to replicate, but Ironheart is expected to carry on Iron Man's legacy (to some extent, at least).

As for the other villains, Anthony Ramos (In The Heights, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts) will play The Hood, and even though his casting still hasn't been officially announced, Sacha Baron Cohen (Sweeney Todd, Borat) is expected to make his MCU debut as Mephisto (unless he shows up in Agatha: Darkhold Diaries first).

Ironheart was recently removed from Marvel's release schedule altogether, but a new premiere date should be announced fairly soon.

He got the bad end of the stick for Solo. Disney [frick]ed that up, fired the directors, hired Ron Howard lmao, and all of this after The Last Jedi guaranteed a flop.. I liked him in Hail Caesar!

@bobevanz - the TLJ backlash and dissent sank this more than anything else IMO. I know TLJ made a billy but it was hot off of TFA and everyone wanted Luke. We all saw TLJ at least once

@bobevanz - I promise you that TLJ had nothing to do with Solo flopping, especially since the direct sequel to TLJ broke a billion. The problem was that a Han Solo origin movie was inherently not an exciting premise for the general audience, the reshoots ballooned the budget and it was released too close to more hyped blockbusters.

Can't wait for riri to call him privileged and that he's a toxic male 🤣

@Origame - Well a rich boy that's a bad guy is kind of a privileged toxic male by definition, so it at least fits for once lol.

Origame - 1/26/2024, 11:22 AM
@RedFury - depends on how he's portrayed as a bad guy.

They tried to make John walker the bad guy in FATWS but he ended up being the guy most people sympathized with. Because they went by the logic you did, that he was a bad guy so they didn't need to justify why we should hate him.

@Origame - I'm just playing around haha.

But you're right that they'll probably end up making him either a two-demensional villain, or a sympathetic villain. Outside of Thanos the MCU writers seem to have a really hard time making a good villain without trying to give them a broken past or something along those lines. Anytime they try to make a straight up bad guy, they turn out to be a mustache twirling stereotype.

I thought ironheart was on an indefinite hiatus? Legitimately thought this show would never happen.

@EZBeast - If Marvel was actually learning from their problems over the past few years, this show wouldn’t be happening.

@mountainman - How many times were people saying this about Echo, and that turned out pretty good.

@elcapitan - I still haven’t seen it, just like many other MCU fans have. And the overall reviews for that have been mixed. Hard to call it a full success.

The only MCU project that did well last year was GOTG3. It’s really not that difficult to see that the MCU is struggling currently.

Interesting….

Damn , sucks if it would have been a big reveal if true and it’s been ruined now though through my own fault sadly haha.

Anyway , Alden’s a good choice for the role imo and I am looking forward to seeing him as Zeke Stane in this and maybe even beyond in the MCU!!.

Dude was very good in Oppenheimer recently and held his own against RDJ.

Perfect encapsulation of modern day MCU to give a bad guy a fake name from the 1950’s like Joe McGillicuddy. Is this an I Love Lucy episode?
IronMan616
IronMan616 - 1/26/2024, 10:46 AM
@mountainman - My wife and I were just talking about I Love Lucy, iirc, Mcgillicuddy was Lucy's maiden name and the name of her mom, Mrs. Mcgillicuddy.

mountainman - 1/26/2024, 11:14 AM
@IronMan616 - It is just such an absurd name in our current year that a character using it as his fake name seems so ridiculous.

If I met a Joe Mcgillicuddy, I would 100% know that isn’t his real name and that he was hiding things.

Another Iron Man villain ruined and wasted on someone else's movie that nobody will watch.

To sum up:

This completely unnecessary show is actually still going to happen.

They hire a terrible actor to ruin who could have been a very good villain.

They still seem intent on making the fantastic comics villain Mephisto into some pathetic joke to be played by the a$$hat overrated Borat guy.

Danger Will Robinson! DANGER!!!!!!!

So if she's at MIT, then depending on the timing of the show, MJ, Ned & Flash might show up.

Who did this guy piss off? They [frick]ed him over with Solo and now he's going to get his ass kicked by Dollar Tree Iron Maiden

Solo was a solid movie.
Ironheart was a bad, shortlived comic book series.
The same will be the truth for the series.
