RUMOR: Marvel Is Considering New JESSICA JONES Project Ahead Of Krysten Ritter's DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Return

According to a new rumour doing the rounds today, Marvel Television is considering moving forward with a new Jessica Jones TV series ahead of Krysten Ritter's return as the PI in Daredevil: Born Again.

Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter has long been rumoured to make her MCU debut, but it was confirmed last month that she'll finally reprise the role in Daredevil: Born Again season 2.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Echo seemed likely possibilities once upon a time, and it was widely reported that Ritter came close to shooting a cameo for the latter. Unfortunately, that was scrapped when it became a standalone "Marvel Spotlight" series (whatever happened to that branding?).

Following the largely disappointing second and third seasons of Jessica's solo series, fans are excited to see Ritter get another chance courtesy of Marvel Studios. However, there may be much more to her MCU future than a supporting turn in Daredevil: Born Again.

According to scooper Daniel Richtman, Marvel Studios is considering developing a new Jessica Jones TV series. We'd imagine that hinges on the success of the Man Without Fear's second season and the response to Ritter coming back to one of her most iconic small screen roles.

This comes after Richtman also claimed that Marvel Television plans to focus on street-level, grounded stories similar to Netflix. Big events will be saved for movies, as will the characters typically associated with the Avengers franchise.

By heading down that route, it creates a clearer line between what people can find in theaters and on streaming. After all, why buy a ticket to a movie like Captain America: Brave New World when Sam Wilson can be found wielding the shield on Disney+?

At the Disney Upfronts, Ritter joined Charlie Cox on stage to announce her return, telling those in attendance, "It’s so great to be back, returning to Jessica after three seasons and ‘The Defenders' and now joining the MCU. I’m so excited to bring back this iconic character, and without giving too much away, there is much more in store for Jessica Jones. This is going to be an incredible season!"

Asked whether Mike Colter's Luke Cage and Finn Jones' Iron Fist could also appear in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, Marvel Television boss Brad Winderbaum has said, "It’s about not rushing and telling the best story. Yes, it’s exciting to think about characters interacting, but it’s about the reasons why. At times we’ve done that very well, at times we’ve rushed. The story has to lead the path."

Would you like to see a new Jessica Jones TV series set in the MCU?

In Marvel Television's Daredevil: Born Again, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), a blind lawyer with heightened abilities is fighting for justice through his bustling law firm, while former mob boss Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) pursues his own political endeavors in New York. When their past identities begin to emerge, both men find themselves on an inevitable collision course.

The series also stars Margarita Levieva, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Zabryna Guevara, Nikki James, Genneya Walton, Arty Froushan, Clark Johnson, Michael Gandolfini, with Ayelet Zurer and Jon Bernthal. Dario Scardapane is showrunner.

"A masterpiece of epic proportions, Daredevil: Born Again delivers a powerful, unmissable take on the Man Without Fear," we said in our review"Putting street-level heroics on the map in a way that promises to change the MCU forever, the show is sublime superhero storytelling on a whole new level."

All episodes of Daredevil: Born Again are now streaming on Disney+. As for season 2, that's set to premiere next year.

Second and third seasons proved there is no point

Third season was actually my favorite, but I am not exactly jones-ing (see what I did there?) for another.

I'd rather they just smash Jessica, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage into a Defenders or Heroes for Hire series. They can make it as comedic or as dark as they want and it'll work.

@MaximusTheMad - Third season is a trawl. It's not bingeable at all. But if you watch it episodically, like one a night or one a week it's actually really good. Def the darkest Netflix Marvel season. Although foolkiler was nothing like the comics foolkiller.

@MaximusTheMad - I'm the same, Heroes For Hire would be better, give Jessica good stories every episode for Krysten to work with, Jessica doesn't exactly have a great number of solo comic series, the original Netflix 3 seasons covered a lot of it

And give us Jessica and Luke love story, one of the best superhero love stories ever

I mean, if bringing her back in season two it would make sense the moment they decided to do so to plan for her having her own D+ series and start floating ideas for it. They may go nowhere but that is the only way to have a strong story ready to greenlight IF well recieved on DD's show else we end up with either a rushed poor script OR having to wait too long for her character to be picked up again.

I know many have issues with her Netflix show, and even with that take on the character but I STILL place her first season as one of, possibly THE best single season of a Marvel TV show going and loved her in the role even when the quality of the writing dropped and narrative choices not good in latter seasons (plus the screen chemistry with Cox and co worked brilliantly even if the were major issues in the teamup series).

Aren't you supposed to be rebooting soon?

They really should give the old timeline to Brad Winderbaum. Disney+ Marvel has a much smaller audience than cinematic Marvel should have. Just let it be it's own niche universe after the reboot. The Marvel TV Universe.

@ObserverIO - "Aren't you supposed to be rebooting soon?"

When has Marvel ever said that? I keep seeing folks talk about it, but is it anything more than wishful thinking from a faction of fandom?
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 6/21/2025, 12:22 PM
@Clintthahamster - If they don't then they're stuck with the current timeline.

@Clintthahamster - exactly.

Clintthahamster - 6/21/2025, 6:43 PM
@ObserverIO - I guess I'm saying I'm not someone who sees "being stuck in the current timeline" as a bad thing. I know everyone seems to want Steve and Tony back, but I don't know if those two characters are worth throwing nearly 20 years of storytelling out to get there.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 6/22/2025, 3:54 AM
@Clintthahamster - The fact that there's 20 years of storytelling is all the reason you need to throw it out.

The audience is shrinking. Drastically.
Clintthahamster
Clintthahamster - 6/22/2025, 7:52 AM
@ObserverIO - And you think rebooting with a new Steve and Tony will fix that? Audiences aren't skipping those movies because they don't have actors playing Steve Rogers and Tony Stark. The shortened streaming window, the havoc the pandemic and the strikes played with production schedules, the ill-advised attempts to push characters on D+ onto the big screen, snowballing ill will from flops like Marvels and Cap 4, you can't fix all that by recasting two characters.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 6/22/2025, 8:56 AM
@Clintthahamster - All their multiverse movies are still making bank. That doesn't fit the overall narrative there.

Do I think reboot with a new Steve and Tony will fix it? Yes. I know it will.

If they shunt the old universe onto TV, you can still have your dead Steve and Tony universe.
Clintthahamster
Clintthahamster - 6/22/2025, 9:17 AM
@ObserverIO - Listen, I'll be happy no matter what. We live in a golden era of comic book movies, and more of the same/something different/whatever, bring it on. I just don't understand being so desperate to see the same two characters again when there are thousands left to explore.

Just another property most people don’t want or care about. She’s not a very good actress.

But ... but aren't we being told by Disney management that too much content has hurt the Marvel brand?

Jessica Jones is a great character and season 1 was great, but season 2 and 3 were bad. Only make a new series if you have a great story to tell, don't greenlight a show just because of a cool character. Seasons 2 and 3 proved that that's not enough.

If true then I would be down for atleast another season of Jessica’s own show…

I wouldn’t mind if they continue with the P.I narrative of her solving cases since that’s fun (though with a more comic booky twist then the Netflix version) but if they want to do something different then they could take inspiration from the Pulse where she stopped being that and became a superhero correspondent & consultant after joining the Daily Bugle staff however I don’t see this iteration doing that so perhaps not.

Anyway regardless , I’m down for more of Krysten Ritter as JJ since I like her performance and this take on the character.

S3 was pretty solid. Two was a depressing mess though.

Season 1 of JJ was absolutely incredible. It, along with Thunderbolts, are proof that superhero stories can be used to deal with complex issues and not just “beat up bad guys”.

Whatever you do, can you just not underpower these Defenders characters anymore? Please? It carried over from Netflix and remained the only drawback to Born Again. They showed glimpses of Matt being an actual super-powered individual, but then he struggles to take on the ONE bank robber? That should have been a kick and a punch and done. Happened a few times in there. There were glimpses of it being done right, but we need to see more of him at the level he was in She-Hulk (regardless of what anyone thinks of that show).

First season was fantastic and seasons 2-3 weee major disappointments. Only reason to do this would be if you loosely adapted Purple Children, which would allow them to bring back Tennant for flashbacks and such.

Save the resources, put it towards Hero’s for Hire.

JJ is boring as hell, she’s always just sulking around depressed and angry.

Unless she’s gonna start flying or using her powers more often it’s just another drama with a sprinkle of comic magic and that’s just lame

DD:BA was just a procedural court room drama with SOME action sprinkled in throughout the season.

If they want these shows to be successful they need to really lean in and give us some gratuitous super power usage, some costumes, more comic fantasticalness.

I get that the grounded street level stuff would save them money and leave the bigger heavy FX events to the big screen, but if they keep it too small, too low budget and too boring, ppl won’t tune in.

@MuadDib - I agree to an extent, I think each season finale should bring something big, both in action sequences and powers/abilities, surprises and even cameos. It needs something to bring them back for the next season. You want people to talk about that amazing ending at work, or in school. You need to shock the audience, it needs to be great storytelling and writing. Do that, and you’ll have more viewers returning.
