MOON KNIGHT Producer & Director Confirm [SPOILER] Is Peppered Throughout The Show (Exclusive)

While it wasn't exactly a secret, Moon Knight producer Grant Curtis and director Mohamed Diab have confirmed to us that the finale's big surprise character had, in fact, appeared throughout the season.

Following that excellent season finale of Moon Knight on Wednesday, we caught up with director Mohamed Diab and producer Grant Curtis to talk about all the biggest moments, including that jaw-dropping post-credits sequence that has been dominating conversation across the interwebs.

The final moments reveal that Khonshu (F. Murray Abraham) is still very much in business, and we get the big moment we've been waiting for as the show confirms that he's actually been working with Jake Lockley (Oscar Isaac) all this time. Marc Spector's most ruthless persona then took out Arthur Harrow (Ethan Hawke) before the credits began to roll.

All season long, fans have suspected that Lockley had been seizing control every now and again, most prominently during an early scene in episode five. After talking to Curtis, he confirmed suspicions that Lockley had indeed been part of the season without us ever realizing.

"Well, as you can imagine, from seeing all six episodes, Jake is peppered throughout the show, and his presence is peppered throughout the show, but it was one of those things when we talked about, you know, Mark and Steven’s most satisfying emotional arc. It was one of those things when we started to look at how Jake Lockley plays into that.

It just seemed like emotionally, narratively, that brought their journey full circle, but also, hinted at potential things to come. So, it was never like, from day one, when we were sitting the writers' room, we never said we have to end with Jake Lockley. However, once that question, once that possibility was put forth in the writers' room, we realized that was a pretty good North Star to be shooting towards for the end of the show and it naturally fell into place. I think the audience likes finally seen a little bit of Jake, and seeing what we hinted at in the previous five episodes."

As for why we didn't see more Jake or get a moment where Marc and Steven discover their body's third co-inhabitant, director Mohamed Diab revealed that they did make an attempt to incorporate him before realizing the story was a little getting too busy with three leading characters.

"There was lots of development. I think Jeremy Slater and his team thought we should focus on the two of them first, because with Jake, it could be overwhelming, and you want to focus on the two characters and give them the time that they need.

And actually, when we started, we tried putting Jake in, but it felt exactly like what Jeremy said, and it felt like it was too much, but right now, I think we found the perfect balance when he’s seized control and everyone is missing them. Everyone is talking about Jake, and then, you open the door for another story to be told. I feel like one day when there's an expansion, if there is an extension for that story, it should be Jake’s story at the center."

Moon Knight is now streaming on Disney+!

When Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life, he discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc’s enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.

I wonder how'd you do Jake at the center without a retread. I mean obviously Steven and Marc have to come to terms with their being another alter and Jake can't be Kuntshu's slave forever. That's why they get paid the big bucks and I don't though.

Thank you for spoiler warning. I’d have never of guessed that when Marc or Steven took credit for the violent black outs, that it was in fact another personality. Top tier article as expected for this site

The most important question of this MCU adventure, whose name is in the lease of their apartment? Is it Steven or Marc because one didn’t know about the other.

So will Jake Lockley be speaking spanish the entire time?

Awkward. What happened to those conspirators that claimed Jake with a Bronx accent in episode 5?

@JFerguson - I figure he will drift in and out of Spanish. Have a strong accent.

First Lockley moment is in the first episode when the lady mentions him asking her out on a date. He doesn’t remember it and it’s kind of played off as it may have been Marc but Marc is married and I doubt he’s want Stephen sleeping with someone else.

I get that the whole “big reveal” was supposed to be the end credits, but seriously, the 3rd personality allusions were about as subtle as a brick through your front window. And chopping out the final battle where MK gets the upper hand over Harrow was a massive disappointment for me. I mean FFS, it was the climax of 6 episodes of conflict and it was just completely skipped. I wonder what goes through these writers heads, I really do. No doubt they’ve used the whole “subverting expectations” wank to justify it.

Horrible horrible execution. Weaving something into your plot to only reveal the climax after the credits is daft. Also the decision to cut out marc confronting his mom was a bad decision.

One of my main critiques of the finale is that they did not show us Jake defeating Harrow and his henchmen. We were robbed of that moment, and for us to not see exactly what happened in the climatic final confrontation with the villain was a major misstep and kind of illogical. Hell, they could have showed it as a flashback in the after credits scene when Jake is officially revealed. I do not like that we were robbed of that important moment.
