As you may or may not be aware, the use of artificial intelligence to generate art has become a major hot-button topic. While some view it as a useful tool, it's probably accurate to say the majority feel that AI, at the very least, undermines the work of actual creators.
You've may have seen various AI-generated clips that substitute different actors into well known movies or TV shows doing the rounds on social media, but it's now come to light that Marvel Studios used AI to create the opening credits sequence for Secret Invasion, which premiered on Disney+ today.
Director and executive producer Ali Selim has revealed to Polygon that the intro was designed by Method Studios using artificial intelligence, which he feels "plays with the very themes of the show."
“When we reached out to the AI vendors, that was part of it — it just came right out of the shape-shifting, Skrull world identity, you know? Who did this? Who is this?”
The shifting, water color-style credits are certainly effective in conveying the paranoid feel of the espionage drama, but, as you might expect, this news has been met with quite a bit of backlash online.
Have you watched the first episode of Secret Invasion yet? If so, what did you make of the credits, and does the fact that the sequence was AI-generated put you off? Drop us a comment down below.
