Netflix App Reveals THE PUNISHER is Coming In 2017

Netflix App Reveals THE PUNISHER is Coming In 2017

We all knew the spinoff was coming, but it may be coming even sooner than we thought. Could we be seeing three new Netflix Original releases from Marvel next year? Check your calendars now!

Netflix's website has leaked info early before, with manipulation of source codes both revealing the first look at Daredevil's red suit prior to the release of the first season, as well as many of the title episodes for Jessica Jones. And it seems the mobile app for the popular service has revealed a new tidbit: the distributor's expected release year for the highly anticipated spinoff, Marvel's The Punisher.

Now, while this is certainly subject to change, it would be outside of Netflix's pattern to post placeholders for shows more than a year in advance (Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Defenders only got similar pages in early 2016), and The Punisher was announced with showrunner Steven Lightfoot already attached. With The Defenders being an 8 episode miniseries rather than a full 13 episode series, perhaps Netflix is more comfortable having 3 shows a year if one is a shorter episode order? I suppose we'll find out soon enough!

So what do you guys think? Are you excited to be seeing the one-man army hit the streets earlier than you expected? After Jon Bernthals performance early in March, what more do you hope to see from the character's solo series? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!

Hope that's true, but 3 Marvel Netflix shows in a year seems like a stretch...

@LeonardTheWise - Wow..... If they decide to make more Marvel Netflix shows, They'll decide to put in 4 shows a year instead of 2 or 3.

Sounds about right. Iron Fist in Spring, Defenders in Summer, Punisher in Late Fall.

Then Jessica Jones in Spring, with Daredevil and maybe a new show later in the year. Once Luke Cage and Iron Fist are more established, I'm sure Netflix will smoosh them together for Heroes for Hire. The "one season every couple of years" schedule will probably help keep the quality of the stories up, but at a certain point I'mma want crossovers and movie appearances. It's the next step, Marvel, if you have the courage to take it.

@Spock0Clock - im with SoC. They need to get it all together so they can crossover the Netflix TV with the Movies. I personally like the Netflix shows better than the movies. Heroes for Hire with Misty and Coleen helping out would be a epic show. JUST DO IT!

wish i knew how to do that giff with Shoaab Labouf.

Good news. I was hoping he would be in Defenders as well

As much as I want this to happen I don't think it will be out in 2017. We're already too close to that year and they would have started filming for it now. 2018 seems more likely. I'll wait for Marvel and Netflix to officially confirm the date.

@Mercwitham0uth - agreed. Unless they're starting ASAP this fall.

Jon Bernthal implied he would be filming around the same time 'The Defenders' would be filming later this year. Some folks assumed he would be part of 'The Defenders', and while that can be true, it does look like 'The Punisher' is going to get a head-start before 'Jessica Jones' season 2 and 'Daredevil' season 3. As Charlie Cox and Krysten Ritter will be caught up on the 4 month 'The Defenders' shoot before they can start on their own new seasons.

Also, since all the Netflix/Marvel 13-episode shows take 6 months to shoot. And if 'The Punisher' starts late this year -it's most likely we'll definitely see the show by late 2017. Most likely November 2017 if Netflix plans to space out 'Iron Fist', 'The Defenders' & 'The Punisher'. Iron Fist will finish filming in early September -so we'll see an early 2018 debut for that show. 'The Defenders' most likely in summer 2018 with 'The Punisher' following shortly after.

@Matador - I'd like to see some of the stories from his MAX series tbh.

@Mercwitham0uth - Isn't that what they did with the Thomas Jane movie? Got some scenes from the Garth Ennis stuff.
Mercwitham0uth
Mercwitham0uth - 8/15/2016, 11:23 AM
@Matador - Nah that wasn't Marvel MAX though. That was Marvel Knights "Welcome Back Frank" story. It ran for 12 issues. Also the Punisher 2004 film with Thomas Jane in the role was inspired by that comic as well as bits from the original Punisher: War Zone series.

@Mercwitham0uth - Damn and here I criticize @Nomis for being old and not changing his ways. I'm stuck in the War Journals and never got a chance to read MAX or the Marvel Knights stuff. I don't remember where I was hen it got released.

Thanks for the review man will look out for those books to read.

@Matador - Ennis wrote issues 1-69 as well as I think 3 one-shots in that series. The one-shots were Tyger Tiger, The Cell, mand The End. Probably the best Punisher series I've read. The Punisher War Zone film took inspiration from that series but executed it poorly.
