The Ill-Fated HANNIBAL Season 3 Makes Its Way To Home Video This Winter

HANNIBAL's run on NBC was never meant to last, but that won't stop Fannibals from feasting on left overs of their favourite episodes as of its home video release this December.

Despite having received critical praise, a loyal fanbase, and a largely positive reputation, it seems that Hannibal was never meant to last. The crime-horror series, which starred Mads Mikkelsen as everyone's favourite gourmand serial killer, ironically struggled to keep stable ratings, inevitably leading NBC to cancel the series following its third season, which merely marks the halfway point of the six seasons that were planned.  Although there have been talks of continuing the series on another network and even developing a feature film, nothing concrete has publicly developed from these discussions.

Although the odds are against the series continuing, that won't stop Fannibals from reliving its possibly final season, as it will soon become available on home video as of 8 December 2015.

Press Release:

From the imaginative mind of Bryan Fuller (TV’s “Heroes” and “Pushing Daisies”) comes the final chapter of the smash hit series HANNIBAL: Season Three, keeping viewers’ spines tingling on Blu-ray (plus Digital HD) and DVD (plus Digital) December 8th from Lionsgate Home Entertainment. Based on the series of novels by Thomas Harris that sparked a cult following and major motion picture franchise, the deliciously dark and twisted series brings Hannibal Lecter’s chillingly genius insanity to life.

Based on the characters and elements appearing in the novel Red Dragon by Thomas Harris, “Hannibal,” from Gaumont International Television (in association with Sony Pictures Television Networks), stars Mads Mikkelsen (The Hunt) as the iconic Hannibal Lecter, Emmy® Award nominee Hugh Dancy (Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie, “Elizabeth I,” 2006), Gillian Anderson (TV’s “The X-Files”), and Academy Award® nominee Laurence Fishburne (Best Actor in a Leading Role, What’s Love Got to Do with It, 1993). The show co-stars Caroline Dhavernas (TV’s “Off the Map”) and guest stars Eddie Izzard (Valkyrie), Zachary Quinto (Star Trek franchise), Gina Torres (TV’s “Suits”), Raul Esparza (TV’s “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”), Mía Maestro (TV’s “The Strain”), Scott Thompson (TV’s “The Colbert Report”), Rutina Wesley (HBO’s “True Blood”), and Katharine Isabelle (Syfy’s “Being Human”).

Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen) is on the run in Europe — accompanied by his psychiatrist, Bedelia Du Maurier (Gillian Anderson) — sporting a new identity, but servicing the same insatiable appetite. As the lives of Will (Hugh Dancy) and Jack (Laurence Fishburne) converge toward Hannibal again, each with their own motivations to catch him once and for all, their deadly dance turns in startling and unexpected ways.

HANNIBAL: Season Three contains all 13 episodes and is loaded with special features that include select episode audio commentaries with the cast and crew, behind-the-scenes featurettes, webisodes, deleted scenes, and a gag reel. The Hannibal: Season Three Blu-ray and DVD will be available for the suggested retail price of $24.99 and $24.98, respectively.

Special Features:

  • Audio Commentaries with Cast and Crew
  • “Getting the Old Scent Again: Reimagining Red Dragon” Featurette
  • “Beyond the Mind Palace” Featurette
  • “Hannibal on the Run” Featurette
  • Avid Fannibals
  • “Hannibal: Season 3: Killer Intentions” Featurette

well if there's a silver lining to the show ending at least Mikkelsen's career is on the rise.

I watched season 1, but couldn't continue to keep up with it. Why did this get canceled, what I saw was awesome?

@thor2273
Mikkelsen's career has always been top-tier. Check him out in films like "Valhalla Rising" and "The Salvation".

@Foolsgoldfinge- Yeah I know he's always been an tremendous actor. I meant right after Hannibal ended he's gotten major projects like Rogue One and Dr. Strange so even more people will see him. I would love to see him in a Tarantino movie.

I was hoping that the show would continue through the books.

I would have loved to see what they did with Silence of the Lambs and Clarice Starling in general.

Really enjoyed this show, and I didn't think I would. Boy was I wrong.

Looking forward to seeing Bryan Fuller's take on American Gods. This guy hasn't let me down yet.

@SmellofDuty Ratings. Not enough people watched it live. Although it had a huge following and fanbase (main reason it even got to 3 seasons), eventually it proved to be too costly to make.
