When a properly is as beloved as Cowboy Bebop, there is always going to be criticism of any adaptation - particularly when it comes to casting. Of course, some people take it way too far and get wrapped up in character appearances, with even slight deviations coming in for backlash.
Such was the case when the first official stills from Netflix's upcoming take on the mega-popular anime were released earlier this week.
In the '90s show, Faye Valentine wears a very skimpy costume, and while actress Daniella Pineda's (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) ensemble does pay homage to the original via its color scheme, it's a far more practical outfit.
This didn't site very well with some fans, and Pineda has now shared a sarcastic "apology" via Instagram.
Well handled, we're sure you'll agree!
"Cowboy Bebop is an action-packed space Western about three bounty hunters, aka cowboys, all trying to outrun the past. As different as they are deadly, Spike Spiegel (John Cho), Jet Black (Mustafa Shakir), and Faye Valentine (Daniella Pineda) form a scrappy, snarky crew ready to hunt down the solar system’s most dangerous criminals — for the right price. But they can only kick and quip their way out of so many scuffles before their pasts finally catch up with them."
We recently learned that anime composer Yoka Kano, who has worked on the likes of Vision of Escaflowne, Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex, Turn A Gundam, Macross Plus, and more, will be creating the soundtrack.
Cowboy Bebop will be exec produced and written by Christopher Yost (Thor), who will also serve as showrunner along with Andre Nemec, Josh Appelbaum, Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg of Midnight Radio; Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios; Yasuo Miyakawa, Masayuki Ozaki, and Shin Sasaki of Sunrise Inc. Watanabe is on board as a consultant.
The show is set to premiere on Netflix on November 19.
