After a series of delays and a few mishaps, Netflix has set a November 19 premiere date for its highly-anticipated live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop, and released a batch of official stills which provide a first look at the show's leads.
The images feature John Cho (Spike Spiegel), Mustafa Shakir (Jet Black), and Daniella Pineda (Faye Valentine), and, of course, an adorable corgi as the crew's canine companion, Ein. They certainly look the part, but whether the show manages to appease the anime's devoted fanbase remains to be seen.
Cowboy Bebop is based on the incredibly popular '90s anime by Shinichirō Watanabe, and follows a group of intergalactic bounty hunters aboard their spaceship, Bebop.
"Cowboy Bebop is an action-packed space Western about three bounty hunters, aka cowboys, all trying to outrun the past. As different as they are deadly, Spike Spiegel (John Cho), Jet Black (Mustafa Shakir), and Faye Valentine (Daniella Pineda) form a scrappy, snarky crew ready to hunt down the solar system’s most dangerous criminals — for the right price. But they can only kick and quip their way out of so many scuffles before their pasts finally catch up with them."
We recently learned that anime composer Yoka Kano, who has worked on the likes of Vision of Escaflowne, Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex, Turn A Gundam, Macross Plus, and more, will be creating the soundtrack.
Cowboy Bebop will be exec produced and written by Christopher Yost (Thor), who will also serve as showrunner along with Andre Nemec, Josh Appelbaum, Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg of Midnight Radio; Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios; Yasuo Miyakawa, Masayuki Ozaki, and Shin Sasaki of Sunrise Inc. Watanabe is on board as a consultant.
