ANDOR Star Stellan Skarsgård Hints At Season 2's Premiere Window And Praises STAR WARS For "Grown-Ups"

Andor season 2 had been set to premiere on Disney+ this August before last year's year's Hollywood strikes, but star Stellan Skarsgård has shared an update on the show's future while praising its tone.

Andor may not have explored Star Wars lore as deeply as The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan Kenobi, but it still made a huge impact when it premiered on Disney+ in 2022. Receiving widespread critical acclaim, the show delved into a new side of this Galaxy Far, Far Away to tell a deeply personal, hard-hitting story.

Stellan Skarsgård blew everyone away as the Rebel leader Luthen Rael and recently spoke to Games Radar (via SFFGazette.com) about his role as the evil Baron Vladimir Harkonnen in Dune: Part 2

Pushed for details on what fans can expect from the second and final season of Andor, he teased, "It's the last season of it. It ends where Rogue One starts so it’s up to that point. I think it will be very good as already the first one was satisfying for me because it’s sort of Star Wars for grown-ups."

"It’s a more realistic and complicated society that they’re living in and the claustrophobia of the fascist regime is palpable," Skarsgård continued. "I think we have a good season ahead of us."

The plan had been for Andor season 2 to hit Disney+ this August, but the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes caused major shooting delays, However, Skarsgård seems confident we'll see the show back on our screens either later this year or early 2025.

"It will probably be out towards the end of the year or early next," the actor said, strongly hinting it will join Skeleton Crew and The Acolyte as this year's new live-action Star Wars TV shows.

Andor's next batch of episodes will chronicle the next steps in Cassian's journey as he fights to assemble a fledgling resistance. Kathleen Kennedy, Tony Gilroy, Sanne Wohlenberg, Diego Luna and Luke Hull are executive producing the upcoming season, which stars Diego Luna, Adria Arjona, Kyle Soller, Denise Gough, Genevieve O’Reilly, Andy Serkis, Muhannad Bahair and Joplin Sibtain.

"Today is the last day of filming Andor," Luna said on Instagram earlier this month. "I could not be more thankful to the entire crew for this amazing experience and the years of hard work."

"More than 700 people have worked on this production, and it is impossible to say goodbye and thank you to everyone individually, which is why I write here. Thank you for the love and the wonderful experience. See you soon."

Rogue One and Andor should be the blue print of what star wars needs to be in the future.

Andor and Rogue One are the true rare SW examples where character development and world building is at the forefront of the story. Andor even elevates it by making the story relevant to today's world issues.

Everything else has been VFX porn, fan service nostalgia and lazy progressive narrative.

@theBlackSquare - it is the only D+ production that I know will be quality TV.

Everything else coming up is a crapshoot at this point.

@Usernametaken - Totally. I could actually talk about Andor all day. It just makes me happy that it exists, that SW can be good.

Also, and I've mentioned this before, but the shooting on location rather than LED wall is everything to me.

@Usernametaken - Finally watched it upon the community's recommendation. Holy crap, its like night and day in terms of quality writing, acting, and direction.

Andor is great, but its aimed more towards adults. don't think younger folks enjoyed it as much thats why it has the lowest viewership. Mandalorian is probably the template for new star wars content but hopefully they don't abandon what Andor started which is making content for older folks like me.

@mastakilla39 - Interesting point. I guess that's an issue we're starting to see with these long, long running franchises. How do you grow with the audience successfully (like the Harry potter films did) whilst getting the new kids on board at the sametime.

@Usernametaken - What character development happened in Rogue One? I liked the film well enough but wasn't the main criticism at the time fairly bland characters?

@dragon316 - 'keep politics out of it' ... you DO know that you are talking about Star Wars? It's political in its very nature.

@dragon316 - This series has always been about critiquing imperialism. George said the OT was critiquing Vietnam and said Palpatine in Episode III was critiquing George W Bush and the war on terror. Politics and Star Wars are intertwined. And Andor is the best thing to come from Star Wars in decades.

@SpaceAgent - I think he meant he wants more "pew-pew boom politics" and less "talk-talk covert politics"

It’s a solid show and am looking forward to seeing how it wraps up with S2!!.

His character of Luthen was probably my favorite in the show so I’m excited to see his arc this season (likely ending with his death i feel)

Dude had some great dialogue , especially this monologue…

i love how andor makes the imperials not just a bunch a toy advertisements that get dispatched in a blink of an eye. they are actually menacing and a threat to the characters in the show. its awesome seeing storm troopers get a bump in gravitas. that scene when the tie fighter first shows up when they are hiding in the hills made tie fighters [frick]ing terrifying to the people on screen and it showed. there are no OP jedi or ace x wing pilots just people scrapping shit together. a scene with the emperor from the andor characters point of view would be awesome as hell!!!
