Sonic the Hedgehog was released shortly before theaters began to close, and the movie proved to be a big hit (critically as well as financially). It came as no great surprise that Paramount Pictures was working on a sequel with director Jeff Fowler, and we now have an official title and release date reveal.
There aren't too many surprises here, though!
The sequel has officially been titled Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and will be released in theaters on April 8th, 2022 (the same release date we've been hearing about for a while now).
There's a familiar theme tune, and you'll notice that the title treatment has a fun nod to Tails. The fan-favorite fox first showed up in Sonic the Hedgehog's post-credits scene, and this is a good indication that he'll have a leading role in the sequel. Unfortunately, there's nothing here that confirms those Knuckles rumours.
Just yesterday, we heard that Paramount is eyeing Aquaman star Jason Momoa for that role, so it's likely they're waiting until he's signed up to the project before making anything official.
