We're never likely to see another live action SW movie, at least before Lucas dies or something. But if we did the Old Republic setting would be what I wanted to see the most.

Besides almost everything made up so far that takes place after RoJ sucks huge ones. The Thrawn Trilogy is an exception but even it had problems. The Luuke clone thing was dumb.

I love how this puts the 'Wars' back in 'Star Wars'. We can't so much more media focusing on the clones though, right?

The Old Republic era (KOTOR 1 & 2, etc.) would definitely make for some epic movies. Dark Malak would be epic. They wouldn't even need Lucas, everything they'd need to make a great movie is in the games. One can only dream.

this game is a mmorpg, think world of warcraft. it is set hundreds of years before the movies, there are other trailors and game footage that has been out several months now, love the new trailor but it seems like this story could have been more fleshed out with more information about the game and some of the other game footage and videos.

@ nitesoul

actually the Old Republic setting is 4000 years before episode 1.

@ wavehunter

really?? KOTOR 1 and 2 are fan favorite RPG's. Those games are awesome! The first one won a crazy amount of awards the year it was released and both are critically acclaimed. lol To each their own.

@ Tyler

yeah, i've been saying they need to use the Old Republic setting in movies for a while now. The Darth Malak and Darth Revan story would be epic!

Great trailer, but isn't it kind of sad that the heroes fought that hard to protect Alderaan only for the Death Star to blow it up some 4000 years later?

Darth Vader died a hero, my ass!

Lucas,DO IT!

I really hope the combat action is as engaging as this trailer makes it seem to be.

I know KOTOR was set thousands of years before the first Star Wars but this one starts off saying "then the Empire came". I take it this is a different Empire, right?

This game will do alright for a month then everyone will stop playing it. That's the problem with MMORPG's. WoW is the only excepotion. BTW, Lucas needs to re-release both KOTOR's for X-box 360. He'd make bank.

CorndogBurglar - 6/15/2010, 7:44 AM
@ redrum

i was wondering that too. This is supposed to be thousands of years before episode 1, yet the Empire has Star Destroyers, and the Old Republic soldiers look like stormtroopers. i don't know. I think they could have come up with some different stuff. Its a little confusing.
TheDemonHunter
TheDemonHunter - 6/15/2010, 9:09 AM
@redrum -- The Empire in question is the Sith Empire. Not the Galactic Empire Palpatine sets forth in Revenge of the Sith.

I do find it amusing you think WoW is the only MMORPG that keeps players for more than a month however. You do realize there's a world of games outside of WoW, right? That's just the most well known.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 6/15/2010, 10:14 AM
@ demonhunter

I get that its the Sith Empire and not Palpatine's Galactic Empire, but why are they using Star Destroyers (which don't get invented until Episode 2), and why do the "Old Republic" soldiers look like stormtroopers from 4000 years in the future?

@ grif

yeah man, lol. it was going through my mind the whole time i was watching the trailer yesterday.

actually it is less than 4,000 years, its closer to 3500, which can still be hundreds of years(i.e. 35 hundred years)

i was only pointing out that the article should have had more information for those that dont know that much about it, i have been following for quite awhile and plan on taking a break from WoW to try it out.

there is loads of information out there but bioware is a company that usually dont release info until it is officially in the game, there will be 2 sides to the game, sith and jedi, each side will have 4 classes so far, they have not said whether or not both sides will be able to interact or not, each class will have its own dynamic story arc, u will have several NPC's to help you and based on how u treat them is how they treat u and may open up other story options. there is alot of information out there for those that are interested
this game does have a chance to rival WoW in that star wars fans are interested in playing and the mmo community is interested and anxiously awaiting the release, almost everyone i talk to on the server i play WoW plans on atleast trying it out, so as long as it is atleast as good as WoW it should do quite well

CDB@ you just got owned dude... (:p)

there's no way this game will be as bad MOTHERFCUKIN' ass as that video. THAT was an awesome video.

Is this going to be one of those monthly subscription games (on ps3)? - even if this game wins every award i just don't think i can bring myself to pay a monthly fee for any game. my game play habits just aren't consistent enough. i guess i'm what you would call a casual gamer but i hope i get my hands on this game one day and see what it's like.

@ odin

yeah, i did didn't i? lol

and i don't think you'll have to pay a monthly fee for PS3 and Xbox. MAYBE PC. but this would be the first game ever on a console that required a monthly fee. So i'm guessing no.

and you're right, the game won't live up to that trailer. I'm sure it will be great, but the gameplay footage is a little disappointing. I know MMO's will never have graphics as good as any other genre, its just a fact, but i'm unimpressed with these graphics. but i'm sure it will still be fun.
NiteSoul69
NiteSoul69 - 6/15/2010, 3:36 PM
this isnt going to be released on any consoles, just the PC, and a monthly price has not been released but it will prob be around the same price as WoW and other MMOs which is around 15 bucks a month.

I can't wait to see the full potential of this game. From the recaps and the overviews that i saw today the game play looks solid and I just can't wait to play a Jedi. My childhood dreams have come true.

@CDB -- Sorry my answer wasn't aimed at you actually. Was answering redrum as to what Empire was being referred to in the trailer at the start.

In reference to your comments about Star Destroyers and stuff like that... the ships have looked like that in Star Wars for a long, long time. I'd need to look for sure to see just how far back it was established previously that what we see as the standard wedge shape for Imperial ships were being used. I don't think it should be the same that far back though, and I really found the use of the clone trooper armor to be a bit disappointing.

Did it all look cool? Yep. Did it seem to really fit the era? Nope. Is that close to the gameplay graphics? Not even close.

We'll see how it goes I guess.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 6/16/2010, 4:22 AM
@ demonhunter

well the wedge ships weren't around in Episode 1. and they weren't around in the first two Old Republic games, so it just seems weird to me that they would be here, y'know?

that was a great trailer, shame the last three star wars films wasn't of that quailty.
