Principal photography has now finished on Warner Bros.' upcoming reboot of Tomb Raider.

Director Roar Uthaug made the announcement via the short set video below. Various members of the cast and crew can be seen, but it's difficult to tell of Ex Machina actress Alicia Vikander is among them because of the glow from the lights.

Vikander will play a younger version of Lara Croft, who travels to the coast of Japan to investigate the disappearance of her father. The plot is expected to be heavily influenced by the 2013 video game which followed Croft's adventures after she was shipwrecked on the fictional island of Yamatai.

Tomb Raider also stars Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu, Hannah John-Kamen and Dominic West, and is set to hit theaters on March 16, 2018.

That's a wrap! #tombraidermovie #tombraider

@BillyCipher - I have a great feeling about this one. They have the right idea of who Lara truly is. And the Angelina Jolie films made Lara into this superhero esque heroine.

Tomb Raider Revelations really explored the flaws in Lara Croft as well as have the Mature remake. They realize that Lara isn't indestructible.

@SonOfAGif - I hope its good, but i feel like these guys do the wrong video games sometimes. I pray for a dragon age movie. Or halo movie. Or even titanfall.

@BillyCipher - Titanfall would be an excellent franchise to adapt. They just need the right script, director, and cast.

@BillyCipher - Yeah, let's just expect all video game movies to be bad until we get some reception for it. I mean, that's a safe bet at the bare minimum since they've never worked.

I thin this could be good. It really depends a whole lot on Alicia. It has potential to be good, but could easily be mediocre.

I think the tone has to be just right, and Alicia has to be stellar as Lara Croft.

This could work but why does WB has this and Ready Player One two weeks apart?

@KingNomarch - A boat load of people frequenting this site could learn a lot from the stars/directors/producers of Marvel & DCEU, praising each other when praise is duly earned.
Rant over.

@KingNomarch - Johns is a classy dude. He understands that rising tides raise all ships. This so called "competition" between Marvel and DC is non-existent. Marvel wants DC to make great films and visa versa.

The recent games have a very distinct atmosphere and sense of geographical scale. Hope they went for that mood and feel and not something campy.

But then, it is still a movie based on a video game, and I can count the number of good ones on the fingers of the stump where my hand used to be.

My favorite part of the original was just wandering around her mansion, except that butler is mostly inescapable.

@MosquitoFarmer - sigh, this is the true lara croft. These new versions aren't accurate smdh. All I ever wanted was a highly accurate tomb raider movie.
