In Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, gamers take on the role of Talion, a valiant ranger whose family is slain in front of him the night Sauron and his army return to Mordor, moments before his own life is taken. Resurrected by a Spirit of vengeance and empowered with Wraith abilities, Talion ventures into Mordor and vows to destroy those who have wronged him. Through the course of his personal vendetta, Talion uncovers the truth of the Spirit that compels him, learns the origins of the Rings of Power and ultimately confronts his true nemesis.

Every enemy that players face is a unique individual, differentiated by their personality, strengths and weaknesses. Through the Nemesis System, enemy relationships and characteristics are shaped by player actions and decisions to create personal archenemies that remember and adapt to the player and are distinct to every gameplay session. Gamers are able to craft their own battles, enemies and rewards within the dynamic world that remembers and adapts to their choices, delivering a unique experience to every player.

Instead of riding on the back of someone elses creation, I wish these studios would just use those same good ideas to present their own damn thing and risk throwing it out there like the good old days. We really don't need any more made up crap attached to Lord of the Rings and this looks like it could have been a decent game without piggy-backing onto the name brand.

I dunno. Considering this is another "stealth if you want to game", it could have an Assassin's Creed vibe. If it was it's own game, a lot of people may just say "Oh, AC rip off." By using an established setting, at least they're getting people who like Lord of the Rings interested. Personally, I don't mind a game set in Middle Earth, especially with an original new character.

I just watched a gameplay video for this and it actually looks really awesome. It's also probably the most violent lotr game I've seen, tons of decapitations!

looks like garbage, they just can't seem to make a decent lord of the rings game, a game that captures the epicness of the films

This looks great, so what if it's based in Middle Earth... I for one love the LOTR lore and would love to have a decent game that utilises that world fully... Count me in!

Grif's 100% right. This spits on the deep and thorough established mythos of Middle-earth just to make a knockoff story and cash in on LOTR's fame. Resurrected by a Spirit of vengeance? Please. Granted wraith like abilities? You've got to be freakin kidding me. Nowhere in Tolkein's writings is there an example of this or even room for it to be possible. Wraiths only existed as slaves to the one ring. And they weren't tools to be used at your discretion, they were all consuming. No part of this made up Talion guy would still exist. Also, Rangers weren't even in Mordor when Sauron returned, but I could let that by if the story was good. Which it isn't. It's a disgrace and an abomination and spits on the deep and established mythos of Middle-earth, all for a quick buck. TRUE Tolkien fans recognize this, and it's a shame cause he game looks awesome otherwise. But there's way too many unbelievably amazing characters and stories they could've used from Tolkien that were canon or even close to it without this. Honestly they should've just made this a God of War game or something cause that's clearly what they were going for.
