BOX OFFICE: X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Hits $500M; Highest Grossing Installment Yet
Considered to be the best X-Men movie yet, Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past is now also the highest grossing installment in the entire franchise yet, with a whopping $500 million worldwide after only around 10 days of release. Hit the jump for further details!
Bryan Singer wiped away the events of X-Men: The Last Stand with X-Men: Days of Future Past, and he has now also managed to eclipse the box office record set by the third (and worst) installment in the franchise at the box office. The 2006 movie from Brett Ratner earned $459.4 million worldwide, but this latest release has now crossed the $500 million mark this weekend with a total of $500.2 million. That includes the extra $32.6 million taken domestically and $95.6 million internationally this weekend. As a result, X-Men: Days of Future Past has so far earned $162.1 million domestically and $338.1 million internationally.
The Wolverine grossed $416.5 million globally in 2013, while X-Men: First Class, earned $353.6 million in 2011. Those two movies helped restore faith in the franchise with fans and normal moviegoers alike, and it will be very interesting to see how much this one grosses by the end of its run!
Another comic book movie still in theatres is The Amazing Spider-Man 2. That finally topped the worldwide total of the first movie today, but has yet to reach $700 million worldwide.
