In a previous article, I looked at the debut domestic and international trailers for James Mangold's The Wolverine and compared that against the source material, the comic book story from writer Chris Claremont and artist Frank Miller. In that write-up I noticed that a lot of scenes were visually inspired by Miller's comic book panels but a few scenes are fresh creations from Mangold and co. Case in point, the battle on top of the bullet train and the funeral scene, both featured in the behind-the-scenes photos below, did not occur in the comic book.

Spinning out of the events of X-Men: The Last Stand, Logan (Hugh Jackman) travels to Japan where he falls for the beautiful Mariko Yashida (Tao Okamoto) to the grave displeasure of her father Yashida (Hal Yamanouchi) and her half-brother, the fearsome Silver Samurai (Will Yun Lee). But this isn't Logan's first trip to the Land of the Rising Sun or his first encounter with the Yashida clan. Based on a screenplay by Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, Valkyrie) and Mark Bomback (Live Free or Die Hard, Total Recall )and the comic book by Frank Miller and Chris Claremont.

Running Time: In post-production
Release Date: July 26, 2013
MPAA Rating: R (rumored)
Starring: Hugh Jackman, Brian Tee, Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Rila Fukushima, Tao Okamoto
Directed by: James Mangold
Written by: Mark Bomback (screenplay) Christopher McQuarrie (screenplay) Frank Miller (comic book) Chris Claremont (comic book)

The Ninja fight will be sick. Wolverine vs 50 ninja I'm in. But the high speed train thing, that one I'm not sure...

This will be to 2013 what First Class was to 2011. A very good movie, that has very low expectations going in. I've dug everything I've seen so far, which is the exact opposite from what I said about Origins four years ago. That and Mangold directed one hell of a Western, and any cinema snob knows that Japanese Samarai movies and Westerns have very much in common from a narrative stand point. I honestly think I'll like this better than IM 3.

The trailer did get me interested. It looks cool. As far as this summer CBMs, I think IM3 or MOS will be on #1.

I really hope this gets an "R" rating cuz I don't see wolverine fighting 50
Ninjas (ala-kill bill style) without there being a ton of blood. Not to mention the photo released with wolverine's bloody claws.

Wolverine and ironman 3 r my top two for this summer by far... Wolverine and batman r my two favorite cb characters and both movies will make bank this summer.

Man of steel looks good, but I don't see it surpassing ironman3, due mostly to the fact that ironman has a built in fanbase, and all the marvel movies are killing in the box office, regardless of the characters...

Yeah, that's viper....how is she tied to the mutant universe? I always thought of her as a Captain America villian

Yeah can someone explain this to me, I know Viper is essential to the story and all but I thought she was a member of Hydra, you know big Cap villain. How did Fox get the rights to a non-mutant?

"Yeah can someone explain this to me, I know Viper is essential to the story and all but I thought she was a member of Hydra, you know big Cap villain. How did Fox get the rights to a non-mutant?"

That all depends. Example 1: Marvel and Fox share rights to Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. So long as Fox doesn't bring up their Avengers affiliation or Marvel Studios' their father or touch too heavily on their mutant heritage, it's cool. And that's ex-member of HYDRA. There's no reason for Viper to have ever been Madam Hydra in this iteration. In the comics, Madam Hydra had since quit HYDRA when she killed the original Viper and took his name. So long as HYDRA never comes up, there's no conflict.

Should the character appear in a Captain America film, it would likely be explicitly as Madam Hydra and their take would probably be rather different anyway.

Example 2: The Kingpin. His rights actually belong to Sony. His character, at the time Daredevil was made, was on loan to the Daredevil production through a specific deal made at the time. It could be Marvel made a limited character loan specific to Viper provided, as I mentioned above, no mention of any HYDRA affiliation be used.

And yeah, it'll be interesting to see how the Kingpin thing shakes out now that the Sony/Fox deal doesn't exist anymore. Sony can now allegedly use him free and clear in a Spider-Man film, so who knows what means for any Marvel Studios take on Daredevil. Aren't character licenses fun?!

When his vulnerable he is more dangerous? Lmfao bullshit smh at this movie .. Is there some legal reason to why fox cannot use some form of costume? As many times as he gets cut in the face in this trailer he should wear some kind of head gear

Well, at least this Logan movie has one thing going for it...... They can actually make a WOLVERINE movie at some point, and include the memory implants part of his story to make these Logan movies false memories. :)
