MISFITS' Robert Sheehan Was Originally Cast As 'Banshee' In X-MEN: FIRST CLASS

That's right, we almost had an Irish Banshee as he was originally written in the comics. Sheehan -- probably best know for his foul mouthed, hilarious turn in tv's Misfits -- reveals to Hot press that he was actually cast in the role, but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.

Robert Sheehan made a name for himself on Channel 4's bonkers "superhero" show Misfits, before going on to star in the incredibly popular Dublin-based series Love/Hate, and will be appearing next on the big screen in Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones. But it turns out we might have seen him in a much more familiar role a lot sooner if his work on Misfits hadn't got in the way: Sean Cassidy aka Banshee in Matthew Vaughan's X-Men: First Class.

"It's true, I was cast in X-Men. I was going to be Banshee, originally an Irish superhero, and Jane Goldman wrote it for me. Wrote it for little ol' Rob! So yeah, that did sting a bit. There was a four or five week crossover with Misfits, and the studio came back and said, 'No, we need full and free availability', and all of a sudden I was un-cast."

A real shame. Although Caleb Landry Jones did a good job in the role, it would have been great to have Banshee played Irish. Ah well, at least we'll always have Colin Farrell's Bullseye!

there's a familiar story involving Pierce Brosnan during his Remington Steel days. He was forced to back out of the role of James Bond (The Living Daylights) due to his contract with the show.

If you guys know any more stories like this, don't be hestitate to share with it.

he was funny on Misfits and would have been cool that Banshee was Irish, but I think Caleb had the perfect look for him. I loved him in First Class, actually he was my fave x-men on the movie.

Sad he isnt returning on Days of future past. Hopefully he returns on next sequel set in the past

Well [frick] deh lot o' yeh! Mockin' me kinsman!

In all seriousness I wanted him for Banshee. He's an incredible actor. Just watch Love/Hate, you'll see what I mean. Instead we got ywt another X-Man who had no connection to his nationality in the comics. Storm was only African for one film, Collossus wasn't Russian and Pyro wasn't Australian.

@cipher, ha, almost 100% alcohol runnin' through these brai-- I mean veins.
Nerdy might need that drip before you do, we took a drunken tour of Tayto Park recently. I woke up with a meerkat and fifty bags o' crisps. Nerdy hasn't woke up... He's still got a pulse, just his eyelids don't work.

That's why we don't have nice things! He would've been great!

I'm still mad at how they wrote him off of Misfits. Nathan was one the best characters(if not thee best), and they finish his story like that? Bullshit.

And even though I'm only part Irish, I still tell girls that if they kiss me they'll get lucky.
