Weekend predictions for X-Men: First Class are set at an impressive $70 million, a higher draw than its first outing in X-Men, but significantly lower than X2 and The Last Stand. Though, with all the good buzz surrounding this movie, it'd be no surprise if it surpassed this estimation, claiming as much as $90 million at the box office. It's wide appeal lends itself to adults and kids alike, and projections indicate that this will be reflected in he numbers.

Other notable entries in the superhero genre so far this year include Marvel Studios 'Thor' ($65 million) and 'Green Hornet' ($33 million).

Expect 'X-Men: First Class' in theatres June 3rd

How is it a nearly dead Fox franchise? Wolverine got 87 million opening weekend and more than doubled its budget in revenue. It doesn't matter how many people liked it. If a franchise can keep making tons of money with further installments, it's the farthest thing from dead. See: Pirates of the Caribbean.

hmm...according to marvel72, the much maligned X3 makes the MOST money...yeah, take THAT you Singer lovers and Last Stand haters, out there...

anyway, from the numbers listed, i can see the franchise is dead alright. [rolling eyes]

i gotta say tho, i was really hoping Thor beat the crap outta this latest Singer-involved X-Men entry, i still am. but, with the cast and director and writer involved, i gotta say, it's almost impossible for it to result in a bad movie or fail at the box office.

but, who knows...good reviews do not necessarily mean top box office success, otherwise, Transformers would bomb time and again. speaking of which, WHEN are people gonna open their eyes and their BRAIN cells to actually STOP going to any more Transformers movies...just let the god-awful franchise DIE already.

This is not X-Men's First Class. That class was a world-changing combination of Cyclops, Beast, Ice Man, Angel, and Jean Grey as Marvel Girl.

Well, since they bastardized the REAL version to begin with, they had two choices: continue with the mediocre, bastardized, anachronistic version that Fox put forth or do an actual Marvel reboot that was true to the evolution that made these stories great.

In true moronic, money-grubbing fashion, Fox continued it's lie of a version of our favorite mutants, and this is what we get... "X-Men: Never Actually Was a Real or First Class," a misbegotten mish-mosh of characters, times, and places.

Now to re-quote @Marvel72 (with updates) for all the hopeful idiots...
Even as an established franchise, X-Men is not impressive compared to THOR!

U.S Gross/Worldwide:

THOR $163,292,637/ $417,345,011

X-MEN $159,299,717/ $296,339,527

X-MEN 2 $214,949,694/ $407,711,549

X-MEN LAST STAND $234,362,462/ $459,359,555

Only one X-Men movie has done better (the one most critically hated).

Thor's run isn't even done yet. I think Thor's beginnings are stellar in comparison as far as franchise-beginnings are concerned. Aside from that, who cares if a Fox hack movie that bastardizes everything Stan Lee wrote makes a couple more million. Thor will ALWAYS be the better movie for simply remaining faithful (and being successful in the process) to Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

@ Videogameboy362 since when do you speak for the whole general audience? Thor was a good film...get over it.

I say it's better than the other xmen movies X2 is a close second because of nightcrawler. They should have given him his money for X3..
