In exciting news for Mission: Impossible fans, we learned last night that Christopher McQuarrie is returning to helm the next two instalments of the franchise which will be released in 2021 and 2022.

Now, a new report reveals that before he signed up to direct the back-to-back sequels, the filmmaker was courted by a number of studios and Warner Bros. "even tried to seduce him with DC projects." Instead, McQuarrie chose to take a breather and ultimately committed to working with Tom Cruise again.

What were those movies? We don't know for sure, but reliable sources have previously indicated that he was wanted for both the Man of Steel sequel and Green Lantern Corps so they seem like safe bets.

McQuarrie could, of course, join the world of superhero movies somewhere down the line but that's going to be quite some time from now as he's going to be a busy man for the next few years.

Are you disappointed that he chose Mission: Impossible over the
DCEU

Up side: He has made the best Mission Impossible films of the series.
Down side: He would make a great comic book movie, he could do a Superman movie or, if James Gunn is only writing Suicide Squad 2, he could have directed it

@dracula - same. I got about 30 minutes into Fallout and had to turn it off for unrelated reasons and just haven't had the desire to go back to it yet. Nothing put me off, just haven't had the drive to get back into it. I got to right after the bathroom and bar fight scenes. I'll finish it eventually.

My takeaway from this is that...believe it or not, this is progress.
Cause contrary to what all the signs were pointin at, it seems that they ARE plannin to make a second standalone Superman movie.
Which makes me happy! :D
Sure Vaughn is stuck with his Kingsman movies, now McQuarrie with his MI movies, but heh...there's hope.
Maybe another director?

I rather see him do Man of Steel 2. Really love his Mission Impossible entries, but Superman also deserves some spotlight again

From what everyone has said of Fallout, he must be one hell of a director. Sad DC couldn't snag him, especially for Man of Steel 2 basically because I just wanna hear any positive news on a Man of Steel 2.

@ArthurFleck - It was a great film. Can't decide, which is best this or Rogue Nation. I want to hear some positive news about MOS 2 as well. I think it depends from Shazam and WW sequel. If these two do well, WB may be confident to continue with this universe and use Flashpoint to correct all the mistakes.
