RAMPAGE Star Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson Is Ready To Break The Video Game Adaptation Curse

Having learned some tough lessons from the failure of 2005's DOOM adaptation, actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson says he's ultra focused on delivering "something great" with Rampage. Can he break the curse?

Movie adaptations of video games don't exactly have the best track record, so it's understandable if you're a bit skeptical about the upcoming Rampage movie. Yesterday we got our first trailer for the explosive flick and it looks... interesting, to say the least.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is no stranger to video game adaptations having starred in 2005's wildly disappointing DOOM adaptation, which sits at just a 19% on Rotten Tomatoes. But The Rock has apparently learned his lessons from that failure and is ready to break the "video game adaptation curse" with Rampage.

Responding to feedback to the trailer, Johnson, who plays primatologist Davis Okoye in the movie, had this to say on Twitter:

Breaking the video game adaptation curse is no easy task, but if anyone can do it, it's probably The Rock.

In all honesty, anyone familiar with the 1986 Midway arcade game probably knows not to expect too much in terms of plot. Rampage does look to deliver some action, however, and it could be some good ol' fashioned popcorn fun.

Primatologist Davis Okoye (Johnson), a man who keeps people at a distance, shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla who has been in his care since birth. But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry mutates this gentle ape into a raging creature of enormous size. To make matters worse, it’s soon discovered there are other similarly altered animals. As these newly created alpha predators tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with a discredited genetic engineer to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend.

Rampage is set to hit theaters April 20, 2018.

I'm man enough to admit it...Doom is the ultimate guilty pleasure movie of mine. So bizarre and dumb, but I just watch it when I see it on lmao. Love the games as well.

This looks to be just a crazy monster mayhem movie, good fun and hope it entertains me. Also a big fan of The Rock and the rest of this cast.

@Menks123 - Dude mine too, although I did see it at a very young age, not sure if it holds up lol but I do remember being blown away by the FPS scene. And about Rampage, it looks cool. I'm really surprised on how good the cgi looks

@JohnMarston220 - LOL yeah, the FPS part was easily one of the best scenes in any video game movie so far. I saw it when it first came out in theaters with my mom and brother lmao...it's entertaining and over the top.

It'll make a bunch of money, but I don't imagine anyone expects it to be any good (as in, break the curse good).

I really really loved films where characters are somewhat like a league of dare I say, Justice?

What an experience.

Also hopefully the Rock delivers on this film.

I enjoy playing the game, but I highly doubt I will enjoy the movie. I'll give it a shot though
