Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson decided not to return for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but it sounds like he'd be open to taking the helm of a third instalment...

Horror director Scott Derrickson initially seemed to be an unexpected choice to take the helm of Doctor Strange for Marvel Studios, but the insane visuals he delivered proved a perfect way to introduce moviegoers to the Sorcerer Supreme. It was reported that the sequel would be the MCU's first "horror," but with the Multiverse clearly a new priority for Kevin Feige, plans seemingly changed.

With that, Derrickson parted ways with Marvel Studios over apparent "creative differences," and Spider-Man filmmaker Sam Raimi took over as director of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

There are clearly no hard feelings on Derrickson's part, though, as he recently took to Twitter to confirm he'd be 100% open to working with the studio again. The fan in question asked specifically if he'd work on Doctor Strange 3, and it sounds like he would indeed be on board with returning for that movie.

If the sequel deals with the Multiverse, then a potential threequel could take Strange back to basics for a horror-inspired confrontation against Nightmare (the rumoured original plan for Doctor Strange 2). It depends on what Marvel Studios has in store for this character moving forward, but it definitely looks like Stephen Strange will undergo some major changes later this year.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to be released on May 6.

Ghost Rider with Jack O'lantern as one of the Villains.

@Repian - That would be cool. Or maybe an Agent Venom movie for Sony with that version of Jack-o-lantern.

Crazy how Strange has gone on to be one of the best MCU characters in every other movie but his own. Ragnarok, Infinity War, Endgame and No Way Home. I honestly wouldn't mind if they didn't give him a third movie after Multiverse of Madness, but just stick Cumberbatch in as many other movies as possible.

@Kurne - I agree he always steals the show in other movies, even tho in NWH he was acting a bit weird.

And the convenience of having him trapped for the whole time in HIS OWN dimension (and coming back after the final battle...).

But nothing beats the stupidity of such a noob as Ned to create a portal to two different universes... (it took Strange weeks to open one in his movie).

Maybe Ned will become the new Sorcerer Supreme.

Anyway, I really want to see what Scott Derrickson's vision would look like.

All we know is, that it was supposed to fall into the Horror area, potentially with Nightmare as the main villain.

But then someone said, hey we want more heroes and cameos...

I hope the movie is good.

It might be another Ant-Man scenario, where everyone wanted to see Edgar Wright's vision, but Peyton Reed's was also very good (one of the funniest Marvel movies).

Bring on Dormammu. Considering it was the Time Stone holding back an invasion of earth i wonder what would be the reasoning of him staying quiet in the Dark Dimension after the gems were dusted. Or when there was no stone to protect earth after the snap.

@Darth258 - This would be cool, maybe tie him in with Nightmare and go way dark with things.
