Suicide Squad director David Ayer has shared details on what it would take to make the "Ayer Cut" a reality, and it doesn't sound as if it would be as tricky as finishing off Zack Snyder's Justice League.

It wasn't too long ago that Suicide Squad director David Ayer suggested he would "no longer speak publicly" about his cut of the 2016 critical flop, but that hasn't stopped DC fans from pleading with Warner Bros. to #ReleaseTheAyerCut. The filmmaker has clearly taken note as he's once again been responding to people on Twitter to explain what it would take to finish off his version of the movie.

After Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice underperformed financially and critically, Warner Bros. panicked and made a series of sweeping changes to Ayer's vision for Suicide Squad to make it lighter in tone. This resulted in an incoherent mess of a movie, but those of you still rooting for the "Ayer Cut" will be excited to hear that making it a reality wouldn't be too difficult.

In the Tweets below, the director reminds his followers that his version of Task Force X's big screen debut is completely different to what ended up in theaters, adding that there's "No need for reshoots. Just some VFX work." In other words, it would be relatively simple for Warner Bros. to add the finishing touches and drop the "Ayer Cut" on HBO Max to finally silence those very vocal fans.

However, even after Zack Snyder's Justice League proved to be a hit for the streaming service, we don't see Warner Bros. returning to the "SnyderVerse" to share David Ayer's Suicide Squad with the world.

Stranger things have happened over the years, of course, so we'll have to wait and see for now.

It feels like tweeting about Suicide Squad has replaced actual suicide

It would take a bunch of bots spamming some hashtags on twitter maybe, or another pandemic coupled with the need for content from an emerging streaming platform. Or a miracle.

I mean, I'd be curious to check it out just based on the fact Ayer's other work is actually pretty good from what I've seen, and the version of Suicide Squad that was released was an absolute dumpster fire of a movie, so for him to say the difference is "apples and oranges" AND seeing how different ZSJL was to Josstice League makes me think it might be worth watching if it was ever available.

Having said that, James Gunn's The Suicide Squad handled the property much better and is clearly taking things in a different direction so it kinda makes the first movie feel redundant at this point, even if Ayer's Cut ever saw the light of day, so I kinda feel like the time may have passed. Also I've almost completely lost interest in the DCEU now which I know is a sentiment shared by a lot of people these days.

@AC1 - I disagree about Ayer. Everything he’s done has felt cheap and poorly done to me. I don’t like the way his actions scenes come off as choppy and incoherent, I’m not a fan of his dialogue or storytelling, and I feel that he got caught up in his own hype and rode that as long as he could. Now he’s trying to keep the focus on the one movie of his people have given a shit about after it was released.

@AC1 - he has only two movies that are good. Everything else is bad including all the movies after suicide squad. His script leaks were awful.

Fran: How are they different? Describe in details... (3 points)

Ayer: Apples and Oranges. (0 points)

Ayer failed the exam. :/

@UXASIS - I mean, the person didn't ask for it to be described in detail. Just to get an idea of the differences between them in layman's terms. And saying it's apples and oranges is about as layman as you can get.

But seriously, I'd really like to see this cut, mainly because it would give us a comic-accurate take on the Joker-Harley (abusive) relationship.

Also I'm not a fan of people critisizing Leto's Joker based on having almost no screen time.

So seeing him as the main villain would give me more of a chance to have an opinion of his take on the character.

@UXASIS - his script leaks still had a bad take on the Joker. Plus Leto in JL was cringe.

Maybe Slipknot would have more screen time!

What's not to like...

With Zaslav's recent comments and decisions on the future of DC, I don't think Ayer should get his hopes up

@bkmeijer1 - I really bet Zaslav wouldn’t of let Snyder finish his cut either.

Jared Leto Joker may be a joke (ha) these days but I feel he could make a good Joker if the writing wasn't so weird.

The start of this film was amazing, then it just went downhill... I'm one that is curious to see what Ayers vision was, I'm sure it cant be worse than what we got.

Yeah, those Snydercut fans sure did quiet down after theirs. And boy, did that project work out for AT&T. Wins all around.

I just don't think it was wise to not show the origin of Enchantress, which was changed to a quick retelling of it in the movie

I say do it because nobody gives a shit about any of the upcoming DC movies.
