Producer Roberto Orci Reveals New Details For Next TRANSFORMERS Animated Series

Roberto Orci confirms that he and Alex Kurtzman will be involved with The Hub's next Transformers animated series, which he calls "sort of a continuation" of the recently finished Prime rather than a full-on reboot. He also says that it'll be slightly more family friendly.

Speaking with IGN, Transformers: Prime executive producer Roberto Orci talks about The Hub's next animated series based on the franchise. The third and final season of Prime recently finished, but it appears that the next show will be a continuation of sorts. Orci confirms that he and Alex Kurtzman are back on board as producers, and while he's unsure of how exactly it's rooted in Prime's continuity, he says that it's not a reboot and that it's tonally different. Orci also states that the tone and character designs will be more family-friendly, but he assures that adults may be interested as well. Finally, he says that any cast members from the prior series (such as Peter Cullen and Frank Welker) aren't locked down yet, but there's a good chance that they eventually will be. Are you looking forward to seeing another Transformers animated series?

On Potential Involvement With The Next Transformers Series And How It Relates To Prime:
"No, we are involved in it. We talked about it with Hasbro, and we’re excited about it. It’s not really a reboot, it’s sort of a continuation of it [Transformers Prime] in a tonally different form. We want to make sure we’re servicing the right audiences. We got to do a very adult version of Transformers that you just saw in this cartoon, a very sophisticated one, and we also want to make sure we don’t leave other kids behind, who love Transformers too and don’t want to be as scared as Transformers Prime could make you, that kind of thing. So we’re going to have a good parallel series that is connected, but it’s a little more friendly to the family.

"We are discussing that very question [Is the new series in continuity with Transformers: Prime?] right now. I’d love to have as much continuity as possible, and that’s part of what’s been fun about being a part of the Transformers universe since we jumped on the movies. It’s trying to take all the research and all the things that they have -- giant bibles and binders of Transformers iterations. So we always tried to thread the needle as best we could of taking their best, favorite stories and kind of putting them in some order that was consistent. That’s always our goal. The degree of success will be up to the audience."

On The Balance In Making It More Kid Friendly But Still Appealing To Adults:
"I would say that clever wit always makes it something more adult. I think the look of it, you may find, is more kid-friendly. But we certainly don’t intend to be any less entertaining or any less Transformers. But there is a little bit of truth to that. I won’t deny that also, yes, we’re trying to make sure that younger kids who really love Transformers aren’t put off by its intensity."

On Whether Any Prime Voice Cast Members Will Return:
"Yes. Assuming they say yes. If they will come back, it’s theirs!"

Transformers Prime was surprisingly a good show, it was actually quite grounded and dark

It better not be more "family friendly", they should keep the same tone, this was the best Transformers animated series since G1

But in all honesty this is something to keep all the transformers crazed kids busy with before Transformers 4 releases! So I'm happy they're still pushing out more of the franchise without really stabbing fans in the back like how marvel's been doing...

-Ultimate Spider-Man
-Agents of Smash

I would say "Avengers Assemble" but it's pretty decent for now. :)

Not trying to bit** just miss the way marvel used to handle their cartoon like EMH!!!

I loved this show. My Son loved it too. If they change it back to being all kiddy like Transformers animated, we won't watch it. He didn't even like the more kiddy version before.

I thought that Transformers Rescue Bots was for the kiddies. I thought that cartoons that were shown latter in the evening were more geared towards older children and for those of us that are young at heart. I didn't like Transformers Prime at first but it grew on me, I didn't like how bare the environments looked.

I was a huge fan of TF Prime, but the kid-friendly/ family oriented thing makes me want to skip this one. Kids don't watch animation anyway. They're all tablets and Disney sitcoms.

Something that I have always thought was kind of funny. It seems they want to sell more toys and they think by marketing the show to a younger audience will do that, but to me I think that the bulk of the people that buy up most of the transformer toys are older people that are young at heart. So to me it seems it would be better to market the show to to the people that actually by the toys.

@YoungThanos

In all honesty I was born in 93 so I didn't have any knowledge of the original G1 series at all. Due to the fact that I grew up on Transformer series like "Beast Wars", "Transformers Energon", and "Transformers Cybertron" that pretty much did the compassion for me. As I got older I buikt up respect for the G1 series but honestly the only thing serious I saw out of that show was the Galvatron story and the characterization. Again, I have to watch the entire series to fully understand your strong respect for the show because I only saw about 15 episodes and the 80's movie which was great! :D

One correction that should be noted, even though the series itself has ended there is still a 90 minute TV movie Predacons Rising that has not that will be broadcast on the Hub Network sometime later this year.
As far as the new series goes I would rather they stick with an adult focus. But the most important thing is to keep as much of the current cast as possible. Cullen and Welker are great but also would like to see Steve Blum, Tony Todd, Clancy Brown and Daran Norris return as well.

And they didn't want to return to write DOTM to avoid "getting stale". Right.

hey now let's not forget that beast wars was "family friendly" too. i wasn't happy with prime when it first came out but it grew on me, still not happy the show ended but i will give this one a chance too.

Aw man! I hope it doesn't end up as kiddie as "Transformers:Animated" that was just wrong! Prime took a few cues from that but still made it accesible to adults with some deep storylines and great character development.
