Production Officially Begins On ANT-MAN

It's been a long, rough road for Marvel's Ant-Man adaptation, but today director Peyton Reed sent out a Tweet announcing that principal photography has finally commenced for his take on the diminutive superhero. More past the jump..

After more than 10 years of planning, Marvel's Ant-Man has finally commenced shooting. Director Peyton Reed has just sent out the following Tweet:

Back in 2003, Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish started working on a script draft of Ant-Man for Artisan Entertainment, who held the rights to the character at that time. But in 2006 those rights reverted back to Marvel Studios, who kept the duo on board. Wright also signed on to direct the project, and in 2008 the script was finally finished; except that Wright then decided to take a hiatus to direct Scott Pilgrim VS The World and The World's End. But after that it seemed we were finally on track -- Wright had begun to reveal a bit more about his take on Ant-Man, a cast was in place, and then...the director bailed, citing "creative differences".

After that the studio scrambled to replace him, with various directors (including Adam McKay, Ruben Fleischer and Rawson Thurber) being mentioned in connection, but evidently passing. In the end it was Yes Man's Peyton Reed who took the gig, but not without a bit of backlash. It's probably safe to say most fans are glad the film is happening, but Reed will have his work cut out if he hopes to convert the legions who were looking forward to Edgar Wright's Ant-Man.

Anyway, we wish him the best. The movie hits theatres July 17th, 2015.

"From there, Marvel was left scrambling to replace him, and considered helmers from Adam McKay (Anchorman) to Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland), Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies) to Rawson Thurber (We're The Millers), David Wain (Wanderlust) to Peyton Reed (Yes Man)."

Those were all rumors, McKay at the end became writer, how do we know they didn't call him for that from the beginning.
Every site reported a lot of stuff because it was a hot topic and gave them clicks

@superotherside

Agreed. Peyton Reed has been on Marvel's radar for years now. He was going to direct Fantastic Four back in 2002 but left the project at 20th Century Fox. Supposedly, Marvel Studios had him on the shortlist to helm Guardians of the Galaxy, so I think they made a good decision by placing him on Ant-Man.

Can't wait to see his take on it will be like…..

@MrNiklander

I would think, if there is any movie in history that is NOT rushed, it would be Ant-Man. Pre-production for this film has been beaten into submission.

I gotta say, good riddance to Edgar Wright. His constant delays were certainly not helping anything. And to add to that...since when is he the best director since Spielberg? He makes boring brit-coms. I just don't see the appeal.

The only things I'm excited about for this flick, are the casting of Michael Douglas, and the prospect of seeing Evangeline Lily's fine ass in a Marvel movie. Other than that, meh, it's Ant-Man, probably Marvel's dumbest rip-off character ever.

On the other hand, Marvel Studios hasn't made a bad film, so this'll probably be great.

Oh, and Guardians of the Galaxy was fantastic! My first ever IMAX 3D movie, and worth every penny of the $16.50 they charged me. (Not sure if it was worth the 4 hour drive each way, but good drugs make you do strange things.)

@DCGuy

Fool, you should be hoping this succeeds so it gives WB even more faith to adapt much more obscure solo DC properties.

And this is from a person that is enraged by the butchery of Pym.

Shitty Scott Lang as the film's focus? An old Hank Pym? A dead Wasp? A made-up daughter of a dead Wasp? Sad to say but this is the first Marvel movie I won't be seeing when it comes out. :*(

@Klone why the [frick] would I want obscure characters on movies when I got them on series better developed and with bigger payoff.

Obscure characters are done more justice in TV shows

I'm glad to see that this movie is finally starting up. I have my concerns about this project for sure, but I trust marvel to make a great film. Or at least good.
