AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR And AVENGERS 4 Will No Longer Film Simultaneously
It's always been known that both Infinity War & Avengers 4 would film together, which suggested they would film simultaneously, but now, it appears as though there's been a change of plans.
Principal photography for Avengers: Infinity War is currently underway and while a majority of the shoot will likely be completed behind closed doors at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, we have been fortunate enough to receive photos of Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany filming scenes between the Scarlet Witch and Vision in Edinburgh, Scotland, so there's always a possibility we'll see more over the coming months.
The Russo Brothers directed feature kicked off production in late January and should be reaching the halfway marker any day now as Captain America star Chris Evans and more of his Avengers co-stars are expected to arrive on set in May for a lengthy summer schedule.
Ever since the initial announcement to split Infinity War into two films was made, it's been expected that, due to the projects' interconnectivity, they would film simultaneously in order to simplify the production process, but it now sounds like the studio may have had a slight change of heart.
Speaking with Collider, at the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 press junket, Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige revealed that instead of filming the two Avengers sequels simultaneously, the Russo Bros. will now film them back-to-back instead. “We’re doing them one right after another… It became too complicated to cross-board them like that, and we found ourselves—again, something would always pay the price. We wanted to be able to focus and shoot one movie and then focus and shoot another movie.”
As for when production will begin on the still-untitled Avengers 4, Feige says it's now slated for an August start date, meaning Infinity War will likely wrap in June or early July, giving the actors a few weeks off before they have to return to set. This decision also likely helps the studios better coordinate their actors' schedules and should be a boon for the Infinity War post-production process as it will allow them to film any necessary pick-ups or new scenes without having to create a new shooting schedule.
This most recent development will not affect the release date of either film as the two-part production was always expected to run from January to November, so both parts should be completed with plenty of time to spare.

How big of a threat does Thanos pose, you ask? Big enough to span two epic films, beginning with Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War Part 1” on May 4, 2018, and concluding in Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War Part 2” on May 3, 2019 for one massive cinematic event.
“We’ve always had a plan since Nick Fury broke into Tony Stark’s house and told him he’s part of a bigger universe," recalled Feige. "'Avengers: Infinity War Part 1' is the beginning of the culmination of everything that has come before."
