Earlier this year, Chris Evans seemingly made it clear that he's ready to hang up his shield and call it quits as Captain America once Avengers 4 is released next year. At the time, no one could quite tell if he was simply negotiating in public in order to score a new Robert Downey Jr. sized contract or genuinely finished with the role but the actor may have backtracked a little on calling it quits as Cap.
During an interview on Good Morning America, the Avengers: Infinity War star was asked about his remarks and said, "Well, the contract is done. A lot of our contracts are through. Myself, Downey, Hemsworth, we all kind of started roughly at the same time, and I think we all, through Avengers 4, kind of wrap it up. So at this point, I don't know what's next, but yeah, by 2019, that's it."
So, his contract is definitely reaching its end but when the hosts pointed out that they're hopeful he'll stay on as the Star Spangled Avenger, Evans added: "We'll see, we'll see." That's a frustratingly vague response but one which at least opens the door to the possibility he'll still be Captain America when Phase 4 kicks off in 2019. For now, it seems we'll all just have to wait and see what comes next!
