In Venom: Let There Be Carnage's surprise post-credits scene, Eddie Brock found himself mysteriously transported to the MCU's Earth-616. The symbiote caught sight of Spider-Man on a news report and was clearly interested in tracking the web-slinger down.
There was no sign of him in Spider-Man: No Way Home until another stinger revealed that Eddie had decided against leaving Mexico.
When Doctor Strange unleashed his spell, Venom was sent home but left a piece of the symbiote behind. The stage was then set for Peter Parker to eventually get his own alien suit, though we still don't quite know how it would travel across the border to New York City.
In the three years since Spider-Man: No Way Home was released, we've been left to assume that this was a Sony-mandated add-on which isn't likely to lead anywhere.
However, according to a new rumour shared by The Cosmic Circus' @AlexFromCC, the Symbiote left behind in the MCU will play a role in Avengers: Secret Wars.
That's all we know for now, but where better for Peter to don the black suit than in a movie which shares a name with the comic book series where he first donned it? Whether the Multiverse means we'll get to see Tom Hardy's Venom join him remains to be seen.
However, set photos from Venom: The Last Dance have confirmed the threequel picks up moments after he was returned to his own reality.
"The simple answer is that I’ll always want to do Spider-Man films," Tom Holland recently said of where things stand with Spider-Man 4. "I owe my life and career to Spider-Man. So the simple answer is yes. I’ll always want to do more."
"We have the best in the business working toward whatever the story might be. But until we’ve cracked it, we have a legacy to protect," the actor explained. "The third movie was so special in so many ways that we need to make sure we do the right thing."
"This is the first time in this process that I’ve been part of the creative so early. It’s just a process where I’m watching and learning. It’s just a really fun stage for me," he added. "Like I said, everyone wants it to happen. But we want to make sure we’re not overdoing the same things."
If Spider-Man does don his black suit in Avengers: Secret Wars, we'd like to think it won't be a one-and-done and that he'll still have it when Spider-Man 5 rolls around.
Stay tuned for updates.
