AVENGERS: ENDGAME Concept Art Shows Alternate Designs For Bro/Viking Thor And A Grey Version Of The Hulk

In this round of alternate character designs for Avengers: Endgame, we see some startling alternate takes on the "Bro" and "Viking" versions of Thor, and get an insight into the creation of Smart Hulk...

Avengers: Endgame picked up almost immediately after the events of Avengers: Infinity War, but once Thanos was dealt with (well, beheaded), we jumped five years into the Marvel Cinematic Universe's future. At that point in time, Earth's Mightiest Heroes had changed a great deal, but the characters who were in many ways unrecognisable were Thor and The Hulk.

By some miracle, Bruce Banner had figured out a way to combine the two very different halves of his persona, while a depressed Thor had let himself go and was a (much larger) shadow of his former self.

Now, some newly revealed concept art from Avengers: Endgame not only spotlights the work that went into creating "Smart Hulk," but also some different takes on the insanely strong scientist, including one where he has Joe Fixit-style grey skin. As for the God of Thunder, we see a number of alternate takes on both his "Bro" and "Viking" appearances, which are all very cool.

I like this version of Thor. I especially like the scene where he gets Mjolnir back. The way he lights up when he finds out that he’s still worthy gets me every time

Does hulk make his own clothes now?
I was a big fan of bro thor. Can't wait to see what they do with him and Thor 4. I'd like him to climb out his depression slowly and become himself again. We don't need him being Volstagg

It sure would be nice to see Thor again, haven't seen him since Infinity War, then Chris Hemsworth took over because someone said "He was funny in Ghostbusters"

I want to see Gray Hulk, although with Joe Fixit's personality.

Damn there actually was a Lebowski costume. Would’ve loved to see Thor as The Dude.

Should have kept Thor's eyepatch. He would have resembled Odin in his last moments.

Bro Thor never sat well with me and for a long time I thought it was just because the weight gain was jarring... But I'm realising more and more than I actually don't mind the idea of a fat Thor; it's just the way that his weight was the butt of so many cheap jokes the whole time.

He was a badass in the final fight, but he could've been even more of a badass. As others have said, he shouldn't have just been a bumbling mess and fuel for quips about cheese whiz and ice cream - he should've been a furious, vengeful, violent warrior fuelled by wrath and desperation who feels like he has no other reason to live than fixing his mistake, and his arc should then have been one of redemption where he realises he still worthy and embraces his heroic nature once again.

It's like they saw how well Ragnarok injected humour into the character and decided they needed to force more jokes to capitalise on it. We should've got Logan with an axe instead of claws, but instead we got... Jack Sparrow in a fat suit. And that's nothing against Hemsworth, dude's proven he knows this version of the character better than anyone and does amazing work with whatever material he has, but damn. Missed opportunity.

Plus just think how well that'd play off other characters. It's a nice parallel to Clint because they both were affected that badly and both went off the rails, he's shut himself off the same way Tony did but in a much more negative way, like Nat he's literally willing to die to fix things, like Steve he can't move on... And most interestingly, it completely flips his dynamic with Hulk, because now he'd be the violent, raging brute, and Hulk would be the calmer, more level headed voice of reason.

@AC1 - I think Endgame has (rightfully) shown a lot of us that Markus and McFeely aren't the "god-tier" writers many kept saying they were from Civil War to Infinity War. I'm also going to argue that they aren't as good at writing comedy and character interactions they way Joss Whedon was. A lot of their jokes in the films after The Winter Soldier just aren't that funny, and while they're great at writing both Cap and Tony and how other characters behave through those two, I don't think they write the Avengers all that well as a family.

Compare the party scene and the farmhouse scene in AoU, or the scenes were the Avengers would bicker in the first film to Infinity War and Endgame. Their interactions feel flat and almost cold and lifeless. And the humour these two tend to use feels like stopping the film to tell a joke, instead of letting the humour flow naturally.

@Necropolitan - They were never really a "god-tier" writers (heck, there isn't one in the whole superhero movie business really), they're just the best team that Marvel could have in managing the whole thing. Same with the Russos.
