AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Debuts In China With A Massive $76 Million Opening Day

Avengers: Infinity War has reached China and it looks like the movie's chances of hitting $2 billion worldwide have further increased because the Marvel movie has kicked things off with a strong start.

China is the last major market Avengers: Infinity War had to open in and what a great start the Marvel movie is off to! By 10pm on Friday night in the Middle Kingdom, the movie had already earned $66 million during its first day of release and when you throw in $9.3 million earned during previews, that gives it a total of $75 million. That's an incredible start and one which bodes well for the ensemble.

Back in 2015, Avengers: Age of Ultron had an opening weekend of $156 million so don't be surprised if Avengers: Infinity War exceeds that number with relative ease. Even if it doesn't, it should ultimately make a huge amount in China and that's going to help it get one step closer to the $2 billion mark.

Yesterday's figures aren't with us yet but by the end of Wednesday, the Russo Brothers helmed release had made $479 million in North America and $772 million overseas for a worldwide total of $1.251 billion. With Deadpool 2 and Solo: A Star Wars Story on the horizon, Avengers: Infinity War will need to pick up the pace and do everything it can in the next week if it hopes to become the first summer blockbuster to reach $2 billion. How high do you guys think the movie will go? Sound off below.

@mastakilla39 - Good news then, because it is already beating Fast 8. It's Fast and Furious 7 that it hasn't beaten yet.

Mr. Feige is the man with the plan!

Baby steps lead to good and great things. This is what I call being cleverly organised. Congratulations.

@fundamentallyOT - Why this song was not nominated for an Oscar in 2011 for best original song is beyond me.

@fundamentallyOT - If only the Captain America USO costume wasn't played as a joke. With the right materials, textures and fit he would have been ripped right off the comics pages in his classic costume.

@GeneralZod - I can't either. I'd say CA has the best soundtracks from all the films.

@deepee3 - hopefully we will get something amazing in A4.

I wouldn't sweat DP2 since most of the teens getting carded next week will be buying IW tickets again to get it instead.

@Starscream24 - Plus if its that strong of and R movie it will hurt parents taking young ones to see it.

#Deadpool2 is no doubt the most violent major release since Kill Bill Volume 1. It’s also funnier than the first and has me genuinely excited for a sequel. Oh and it features a ton of Canada jokes, so of course I loved it.

What's with this race to get to $2bil?
Why the need for this? It's not successful enough right now?
Putting this film so damn bloody high up the $2mil pedestal, is really not a good idea.
What's with the hype for it to get to $2bil for?

@Darlene1974 - Why the h3ll not?

Last time I checked, when a Studio and director takes risks in the name of quality they should be well rewarded for it. Plus IW was a far better film than TFA and Avatar IMO. This success will give MCU more incentive to do even better in the future.

@Darlene1974 - Because no comic book movie has ever crossed the $2 billion mark. Because $2 billion tells executive producers (and, indirectly, shareholders and other investors) to keep investing in the creativity that gives us these incredible comic book movies, because contrary to what Mr. Spielberg said in 2015 ("there will be a time when the superhero movie goes the way of the Western"), CBMs are NOT going the way of the Western. They are here to stay.

@Darlene1974 - I think it's the chance at history. Infinity War is already going to become the highest grossing CBM to date after 3 weeks, but the opportunity to take things even higher here and break into a bracket only 3 other films has reached makes 2 billion something to get hyped for

@Darlene1974 - I agree to some extent. But it is not about the money. That is just the result. What we mean is the level of grandeur of this projects with the culmination in A4. But don't believe me, see this:

Why, you're against profit or something?
