Is Atlantis in The Avengers?

Could we see Atlantis in The Avengers?

First and foremost let me start off by saying that I am not a professional writer, but a huge comic book and comic book movie fan. I have been following this site for years and have been paying close attention to all the “Avengers” posts. I have no inside information, nor do I have any secret telepathy. I would like to think that I am a logical thinker and pay close attention to the details in the articles on this site.

With all this being said I would like to make a case, or present information to whom I think the “Alien Army” is in the new “Avengers” movie. Let me start off by saying that I believe that the “alien army” is actually Atlantis. Before you scoff and stop reading please let me explain.

1) The first item I read on this site involved a call sheet regarding a scene with something called “leviathan”. Leviathan is defined as the following:
a)Monster: in the bible, a large beast or sea monster
Something Huge: something extremely large and powerful in comparison with others of its kind
b)Whale: a whale or other large sea animal

2) The producers of this movie and Marvel Comics have been very adamant that there are no other “heroes” in this movie. When Namor was first introduced into comics he was not a hero but a villain who fought the original human torch and Captain America. Joss whedon has recently stated that the movie is from Captain America’s perspective.

3) Last week there was an article about the producer giving an interview which he states that the “enemy” were neither the Kree nor the Skrull. He even mad a statement that they may not bet from outer space. He also states that the army would not have a major effect on the movie universe.

4) This week there was an article about a possible tie in with Namor on the set of Iron Man 3.

5) There had also been mention that Jeffery Wright had been on the New York set. If you watch his performance in “Shaft” I felt he had the look of a possible Namor. He might be a tad small but he had the hair and the facial hair to pull it off.

These are the details that lead me to believe that the army is Namor and Atlantis. Joss Whedon is great at taking an evil or bad character and give him or her substance and can make you feel for the character. All you have to do is watch old episodes of “Buffy”. They even got a spinoff with “Angel”. I believe this would also give the universe a boost. Obviously the army has technology above the norm in the previews. This could catapult future movies into the search for new technology. This is a way to introduce the Black Panther and Wakanda for future Marvel movies. Also leaves villains such as Klaw or even set up for a possible civil war story line.

I hope I have not offended anyone I just wanted to throw my two cents out there. Either way I am totally excited to see this movie.

Why would you have offended somebody with this article?

I have noticed that people are touchy on these subjects. This is my first ever article/editorial. Please tell me what you thought

I have an old comic book series called the handbook to the marvel universe. It shows some pictures of antlantian ships. it looks like it to me. Also the blue "goo" or blood on Captain Americas shield made me wonder as well. The atlanteans have been shown to be blue.

Also the weapon that was shown in an earlier picture looked gold/yellow to me. In all the comic books atlantean weaponry and technology were that color.

Number four is invalid because of how extreamly unreliable that source was.
Also, the numbering got confusing, for obvious reasons, but I was able to figure out what you were trying to do rather easily.
I, also, feel you apologized way too much.
Not to mention, this is kind of short although it is hard to expand on theories without turning it into a fan-fic.

golden123 Thank you! I appreciate everyhing you stated. I am glad that you were able to follow my argument. I apparantly had some issues with format. It did not look like that when I wrote it.

Kaceynostridomus Good write up. I am officially admitting I don't know and I'll just have to find out May 6th. :) Great thoughts though. ;)

I feel Zachary Quinto would make an incredible Namor. Specifically because of his role as Spock. He has the look, and sound Namor should. He would just have to replicate his Spock performance once more. But then again, that could be taken as a bad thing seeing that he'd just be a carbon copy of Spock with a different outfit, and a new hair style.

Good article but I don't think Namor or Atlantis are in the movie, however there is always hope.

Beard, Thank you for the feed back. I am thinking that Marvel/Disney wants this movie to be a big sucess. To me it would make sense to me that they would try and get the average joe into the movie. Atlantis is a common story/mythos that I think the averge indivivual could rap his head around.

So far in Iron Man 1/2, Thor and Captain America they have used villians that I would call main stream. In Cap they could have gone for a Baron Zemo. Ieat job with Thor I thought they did a great job with the Frost Giants and Loki. In Iron Man they have used pridictable main stream villians. They could have gone after the Crimson Dynamo or even AIM. I just think they want to keep it easy for the main stream.

They have eluded that the army would not change the story arc such as a Kree/Skrull war. I wish they would put in a Thanos clip. I just cant see Jeffery Wright as a Thanos in person or voice. I would hope when they approach that they go Vader on it. Strong voice that compels fear. I could totaly see a michael Ironside for that.

Like you said hopefully we find out tomorrow.

Thanks.

From AVENGERS #4. YOU tell ME. I think your argument is valid...

...but we'll just have to wait and SEE...

...though I must say, I think Jefferey Wright will have SOME role to play, but it won't be NAMOR. TOO short in stature...but the Atlanteans WILL play a role in the Avengers.

Kaceynostridomus, I refer to the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe OFTEN to find clues to the upcoming Avengers movie and I should say, I think the answers are there. Here's another clue to a character the Avengers will have to address, if Marvel is on point with this whole thing...

Good thinkin' outside the box, dude and nice article...by the way, no need to apologize for having an opinion.

EricMonroe, Thank you for the compliments. unfortunatly i have my comics in storage. But in the OHOTMU there is an antlantean called Attilla I beleive. He was some kind of exiled general. He was blue of skin and hand a breathing shield over his face. I have been wondering for some time if maybe they will be playing into the waring Atlantis story line. I could see Jeffry Wright playing a character like that.
