Mark Ruffalo speaks on his acting style and playing Bruce Banner/The Hulk in The Avengers.

Below are just a few excerpts from what Mark Ruffalo recently had to say to the Belfast Telegraph concerning The Avengers and portraying The Hulk.

On acting...

“I consider myself a journeyman actor. If you want someone to serve the film, you don’t want too much bulls**t.

You want someone who’s committed, who’s going to show up on time, who’s gonna be in your corner. When you need someone, I’m the guy.

On playing Bruce Banner/The Hulk...

“You’re taking a flying f**k at a rolling donut in these movies because you don’t exactly have a finished script. The only thing you have any understanding of is the people you’re going to work with.

Robert(Robert Downey Jr.) calls me, and he’s like, ‘This is gonna be fun.’ Because we worked together on Zodiac, and I grew up with the Hulk, especially the Lou Ferrigno Hulk,”

All I can say... IF he wants fans he better do that INCREDIBLE HULK show or he can [frick] off...

ED NORTON all the way, hell even ERIC BANA in the Avengers!

Still if he does do the series, all is well, and if not...

DP @ All I can say is HANK & JAN better have a cameo at the very least in this or it wont be the best of anything lol.

It needs to be EPIC with all the founders!

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Yes, Norton was great and possibly the ideal Banner, but in the long run SCREW BANNER, I want to see the HULK! Plus, I don't want anybody that's not a team player and is going to screw up production with their personal drama! Ruffalo is fine, and Banner isn't that important anyway.

As much as i want to see Ed Norton back, i think people are going to this movie wanting to go see The Hulk, who wants to see Bruce Banner being all scientist-y, we want to see The fricking Hulk f*cking sh*t up !!

But yeah, Zodiac was pretty boring.

I'm sure Norton could cameo with Hank and Jan in a deleted scene. ;)

But MA is correct. Chances are that Banner isn't going to be THAT important. What matters is the Hulk.

"Zodiac was pretty boring"??? Wow - really???

I think Ruffalo will nail this - was never a massive fan of Norton. Thought he did okay but nothing special.

And if Hulk is gonna be the reason the Avengers first get together (after being tricked by Loki) and then Fury is having to convince him to join the team then banner is gonna be a VERY big part.

Only expect Hulk to smash sh!t up in the first act when the team get together (against Thor! YAY!) and then when he rides in like the cavalry at the end.

Just feels like they are putting the wrong jigsaw piece in the wrong jigsaw with this guy, norton will be the missing piece in this movie

@Leee- Why is Ruffalo starring in the Incredible Hulk tv show the lynchpin in your liking his performance in the Avengers? Other than for continuity's sake for the casual fan to not be confused, what exactly does one have to do with the other? By your reckoning, even if he blows us all away with his performance as Banner in the Avengers movie, if he doesn't do the tv show, he sucks. Whaaaaa?! Dude, sometimes your logic stymies me. I think he sounds like he's ready to be a team player, and that's the most important factor to me (other than his performance).

ed norton was perfect, but the guy was a control freak, had to much of an ego. i guarantee you if him and RDJ were on the same set the avengers would fall apart.

@LEEE so what happens if he dosent do the TV show?

Orphix - 12/29/2010, 7:58 AM
Ruffalo has that sort or 'world weary' thing going on which I think will suit Banner.

I've always thought of the character as kind of burnt out and on the ragged edge. The fact that he is terrified of turning into the Hulk sets him on edge and therefore he is more likely to do so.

Dramatic Irony!!! :o))

And I really can see Ruffalo doing that whilst bringing alor of humanity and pathos (yes, dammit, I said it!!) to the role.

I never really got that from Norton - tho I guess maybe alot of other film goers did. May have just been me...

@ leee777

as much as i would love to see "hank" & "janet" in "the avengers"i could live without them as long as its got "thor","captain" america","iron man" & the "hulk" most of the original line up.

i can live with it,unlike "x-men first class" which is only gonna feature the "beast" from the actual first class.

that is 100% gonna piss me off more.

"You want someone who’s committed, who’s going to show up on time, who’s gonna be in your corner. When you need someone, I’m the guy.”

Hmm...seems to suggest someone else may have not been too punctual and was out after his own self-interests perhaps? ;-)

does this guy ever shut up? I've never seen anyone talk more without having spent one day on the set. it would be great if he was actually telling us something but this guy just talks to hear himself talk.

Ed Norton is a boring actor. There I said it. Don't judge Mark till he has his due. He seems devoted & that's what we need. Ed just quit.

How was Ed Norton perfect? Bruce Banner doesn't seem all that hard to portray. Ruffalo will do fine.

Wow, he's even more of douchebag than I expected. The whole ass-kissing speech about how he's the man for the job was a shot at Norton. I mean, it's bad enough Norton is gone, but then the shitty replacement guy comes along and takes shots? I might have to make this movie a Blockbuster night. I can rent it along with Captain America.

Just remember, Norton skrewd us by not being more flexiable. I am not saying Marvel is not at fault too, but the movie was not called Edward Notrons's The Incrediable Hulk. Sure his ideas were awsome and his Banner was spot on, but at the end of the day All we really want to see is HULK SMASH!
RaMan

Remember its not that Ruffalo can play the part of Banner as good as Norton, but it's more of can he look like Banner. Norton was the best looking Banner I've seen and Ruffalo looks more like Bill Bixby as Banner so if Ruf can look anything like Banner (like he would in the move Last Castle) then he can pull it off.
